What is the Toyota Scion 01?
The Scion 01 is an experimental side-by-side all-terrain vehicle created by Toyota’s North American engineering teams under the Scion name. Toyota presented it at its booth during the 2025 SEMA Show as an engineering exercise and an adventure-performance platform, rather than as a model ready for dealerships.

Toyota’s CALTY design team in the United States created the vehicle. The project uses the Scion badge as a design and performance identity; it does not establish that Scion has returned as a production vehicle brand.
Powertrain and performance
Hybrid system with more than 300 horsepower
Toyota says the Scion 01 uses a high-output, turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain derived from its truck lineup and produces over 300 horsepower. Toyota does not publish a precise horsepower rating, torque figure, battery capacity, transmission specification or final-drive ratio for the concept.

Car and Driver reported that the concept uses the Tacoma pickup’s turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. That identifies the reported source of the system, but it does not mean Tacoma components are direct bolt-on parts for a consumer UTV.
Silent Mode
The concept includes a Silent Mode that uses electric power to move with less noise. Toyota has not stated the mode’s electric-only speed, operating duration, battery range or trail-use limitations, so Silent Mode should be understood as a demonstrated concept feature rather than a published EV operating specification.

What the Scion 01 is designed to do
Toyota describes three target environments:
- High-speed racing: a platform for fast off-road running and competition-oriented durability.
- Rugged trail driving: a balanced, compact vehicle intended to remain maneuverable on tighter routes.
- Technical rock crawling: controlled low-speed work where suspension articulation, traction and precise dimensions matter most.
The company highlights suspension articulation, a balanced track width and a nimble footprint. Those descriptions communicate the design goals, but Toyota has not released suspension-travel measurements, ground clearance, approach and departure angles, wheelbase, track width or turning radius.
Chassis, safety and reported equipment
FIA-compliant cage
Toyota says the vehicle has a Toyota-developed cage compliant with FIA requirements and compatible with SCORE and FIA racing standards. Compliance language applies to the concept’s engineered structure; it is not a consumer certification, homologation or guarantee that a future production model would meet a particular racing class.

Toyota driveline, suspension and brake hardware
Toyota says it selected proven Toyota driveline, suspension and brake components for reliability in extreme conditions. The company has not published a parts list, component identifiers or interchange information.
Other features reported from the SEMA display
Car and Driver described the displayed concept as having all-terrain tires and a bumper-mounted winch in addition to the FIA-compliant cage. These are reported features of the show vehicle, not evidence of standard equipment on a production UTV.

Can you buy, reserve or order a Scion 01?
No. Toyota states that the Scion 01 is a special concept vehicle and is not available for sale. There is no confirmed consumer price, reservation program, production trim, warranty, dealer ordering process or official Scion 01 parts catalog.
Generic side-by-side accessories should not be assumed to fit. Toyota has not published production dimensions, mounting points or accessory specifications, and the displayed concept’s components may be unique to the engineering vehicle.

Is it a Tacoma-powered production UTV?
It is not a production Tacoma-based UTV. The concept’s hybrid system is described by Toyota as derived from its truck lineup, while Car and Driver identified the Tacoma’s turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain as the reported source. Toyota has not announced a production vehicle, a certified drivetrain package or a service-parts relationship between the Scion 01 and the Tacoma.
What is unusual about the concept?
The Scion 01 combines a truck-derived hybrid powertrain with a purpose-built side-by-side layout and race-oriented cage. Its distinguishing ideas are the combination of more than 300 horsepower, an electric Silent Mode and a chassis concept intended to cover three very different forms of off-road driving. Current production side-by-sides cannot be compared precisely on price, range, suspension travel or serviceability because Toyota has released no retail specifications for this vehicle.
What remains unknown
Toyota has not announced whether the Scion 01 will progress beyond the concept stage. Until it does, the following details remain unconfirmed:
