The issue is a potentially loose bolt inside the hybrid inverter, which could lead to loss of motive power or an electrical short and fire while the vehicle is on. Check your vehicle’s VIN to find out whether it is included; Toyota says the recall repair will be free.
Which Toyota hybrids are included?
The recall is NHTSA campaign 25V869. NHTSA lists 55,405 potentially affected vehicles in Toyota’s U.S. filing; Toyota’s announcement rounds the total to approximately 55,000. The filing breaks the population down as follows:
| Model | Model year | Potentially affected vehicles | Production dates in the filing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camry Hybrid | 2025–2026 | 51,644 | Aug. 26–Nov. 18, 2025 |
| Corolla Cross Hybrid | 2026 | 3,761 | Aug. 27–Nov. 25, 2025 |
These are potential populations, not confirmation that every vehicle in those model-year ranges is affected. Production dates also do not establish eligibility for an individual car. Use a VIN lookup to check a specific vehicle.
What is the defect, and what is the risk?
A bolt inside the hybrid inverter may not have been tightened properly, leaving incomplete contact at an inverter terminal. Toyota’s regulatory filing says a supplier review found a machine-setting change that could result in low torque on the bolt.

If the contact is incomplete, the vehicle may lose motive power. The loose bolt may also cause an electrical short while the vehicle is powered on, increasing the risk of fire. These are possible consequences of the defect, not a prediction that every recalled vehicle will fail or catch fire.
How to check your vehicle and get the repair
- Find your vehicle identification number (VIN), usually visible through the windshield at the driver’s side of the dashboard or on vehicle registration and insurance documents.
- Enter the VIN in Toyota’s recall lookup at Toyota.com/recall or use the search at NHTSA.gov/recalls.

What the recall count does—and does not—mean
NHTSA’s 55,405 figure is the potential U.S. population listed in Toyota’s filing, not the number of confirmed defective vehicles or reported failures. Toyota entered an estimated defect percentage of 1% because the NHTSA portal required an integer; its filing says the actual percentage was unknown. That figure is not a measured failure rate.
