Toyota Motor North America reported that 57.4% of its U.S. vehicle sales in the third quarter of 2026 were “electrified”: 363,367 out of 633,223 vehicles. The often-quoted 61% figure is narrower: it refers to Toyota Division’s September sales mix, not the full quarter or all Toyota and Lexus sales.
What percentage of Toyota sales were electrified in Q3 2026?
For the United States, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) reported 363,367 electrified vehicle sales out of 633,223 total sales in Q3 2026, or 57.4%. These are company-reported sales figures for the quarter, not an independent audit. TMNA’s total sales increased 0.6% year over year, while electrified sales increased 28.5%; Toyota reported both growth figures on volume and daily-selling-rate (DSR) bases.

What does Toyota’s 61% figure cover?
The 61% headline figure is for Toyota Division in September 2026. The division sold 104,105 electrified vehicles out of 171,469 total sales that month, a calculated share of approximately 60.7%, rounded to 61% in Toyota’s release. Toyota described it as the division’s “all-time best-ever electrification mix.” It is not TMNA’s Q3 share, nor a figure for the Lexus Division.

How many electrified vehicles did Toyota and Lexus sell?
Within TMNA’s Q3 U.S. total, Toyota Division accounted for 325,227 electrified sales and Lexus Division for 38,140. Their combined total is the 363,367 reported for TMNA.
For September, Toyota Division reported 104,105 electrified sales and Lexus Division reported 13,110. Toyota’s release also said 32 electrified vehicle options were available in U.S. dealerships across Toyota and Lexus at the time of publication.

Does “electrified” mean hybrid or electric?
Not necessarily in the narrower sense a reader might infer from “hybrid or electric.” Toyota’s release reports an aggregate category called “electrified vehicles,” but the reported Q3 figures do not break it down among hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), battery electric (BEV), and fuel-cell electric (FCEV) vehicles. The 57.4% figure should therefore be described using Toyota’s term rather than treated as a verified count of only hybrids and fully electric vehicles.
Is the Canadian figure different?
Yes. Toyota Canada Inc. reported that electrified vehicles were 65.7% of its Canadian Q3 sales, with Toyota Division at 67.0% and Lexus Division at 57.3%. Those figures apply to Canada and Toyota Canada’s reported sales, not the U.S. TMNA totals above; they should not be substituted for one another.

What Toyota says the mix reflects
In the U.S. release, Andrew Gilleland, Toyota Motor North America’s senior vice president of Automotive Operations Group, said, “Our third-quarter results reinforce a simple truth—customers want choices,” and added, “From affordability to electrification, our multi-path strategy continues to meet customers where they are and give them options that fit their lifestyles.” These are Toyota’s statements about its strategy and customers, not an independent measure of consumer preferences.
