Toyota’s My Room Mode lets occupants use cabin air conditioning and audio in a compatible Prius plug-in hybrid while it is connected to an AC charger, drawing on external power without running the engine. In the U.S. 2024 Prius Prime, Toyota’s guide says to start charging, switch the power button to ON, then accept the My Room Mode prompt on the display. Toyota cautions that using the mode can make charging take longer.
What My Room Mode does
My Room Mode is a charging-linked comfort feature: it allows cabin systems such as air conditioning and audio to operate from an external power source while the vehicle is charging, without running the engine. Toyota describes uses such as teleworking or resting in the cabin. It is not a feature for powering household equipment, and it does not turn the Prius into a self-contained camping or off-grid power system.
Toyota introduced the feature with the redesigned Prius PHEV. Its Japan-market March 2023 launch announcement described the car as offered in the Z grade there, while Toyota’s U.S. guide documents the feature on the 2024 Prius Prime. These examples do not establish availability on every Prius model year, trim or market. Check the exact vehicle’s specifications and owner’s manual.
How to turn on My Room Mode in a 2024 U.S. Prius Prime
- Connect the AC charging cable and start charging.
- While charging, turn the power button to ON.
- When prompted on the display, select “Yes” to confirm My Room Mode.
These are the steps in Toyota’s U.S. 2024 Prius Prime Quick Reference Guide. The display then allows systems such as air conditioning and audio to be used in the cabin from external power. For a different year, trim or market, follow that vehicle’s own manual rather than assuming the same controls or availability.

Does My Room Mode slow charging?
It can. Toyota’s U.S. 2024 Prius Prime owner’s manual lists use of My Room Mode among conditions that can make charging take longer than normal. Do not assume the battery will charge at its usual rate while cabin systems are running; the manual does not establish one fixed delay for every charging setup or condition.
My Room Mode is not the same as external power supply
Toyota discusses external power supply as a separate PHEV capability for running equipment outside the vehicle. My Room Mode instead operates cabin comfort systems while the car is connected to charging. The mode requires that charging connection; it should not be treated as a way to power external devices or household loads.
