Toyota and Lexus revealed three distinct performance vehicles on December 5, 2025: the hybrid GR GT road car, the GR GT3 customer race car, and the battery-electric Lexus LFA Concept. The GR GT and GR GT3 were still under development at the reveal, and the LFA was explicitly a concept—not a confirmed production car. Toyota described plans to continue GR GT and GR GT3 development toward launch around 2027, but did not give firm sale dates or prices.
What Toyota and Lexus revealed
The world premiere brought together cars with different jobs and different levels of development. The Toyota Motor Corporation announcement introduced the trio; Toyota Gazoo Racing supplied development details for its two vehicles, while Lexus described the electric concept.

GR GT: a hybrid road car with prototype targets
Toyota Gazoo Racing calls the GR GT a road-legal race car and a new flagship for the GR brand. Its stated layout is front-engine and rear-wheel drive. A 3,998 cc (4.0-liter) twin-turbo V8 works with one electric motor integrated with the transaxle and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota’s figures are prototype development targets and in-house measurements, not final production specifications. The company warns that details may change. The Toyota Gazoo Racing release lists:

The stated development priorities are a low center of gravity, low weight with high rigidity, and aerodynamic performance. Toyota says aerodynamic goals were set before styling, with designers and aerodynamics engineers working together. It also reports simulator-assisted development and testing at Shimoyama, Fuji Speedway, the Nürburgring, and on public roads. These are Toyota’s descriptions of its process, not independent evaluations of the car.
GR GT3: a race car for customer competition
The GR GT3 is based on the GR GT and built to FIA GT3 specifications for customer motorsport. Toyota describes it as a race car for customers who want to compete and says its design aims to serve both professional and gentleman drivers, including by being easy to drive.

Toyota identifies a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, front-engine/rear-wheel-drive layout, aluminum space-frame chassis, and double-wishbone suspension. It also says it is preparing customer support for international GT3 competitors. The reveal does not provide a road-car specification or say the GR GT3 is road-legal.
Lexus LFA Concept: an electric sports-car concept
Lexus explicitly identifies the LFA Concept as a battery-electric (BEV) sports-car concept developed alongside the GR GT and GR GT3. Its partial dimensions are 4,690 mm long, 2,040 mm wide, and 1,195 mm tall, with a 2,725 mm wheelbase and seating for two. These figures are concept specifications, not a production-car specification.

The Lexus announcement does not state battery capacity, motor output, driving range, charging performance, price, or a commitment to build the concept. None should be inferred from the published dimensions or BEV designation.
Lexus says the exterior and interior were previously shown as the Lexus Sport Concept at Monterey Car Week 2025 and Japan Mobility Show 2025, before the vehicle was announced under the LFA Concept name with partial specifications. The company describes its design approach as “Discover Immersion,” with an ideal driving position, driver-focused controls, and a balance of aerodynamic function and styling. Those are Lexus’s stated design aims.

The clearest comparison is purpose and status, not a performance ranking. Toyota published hybrid power and weight targets for the GR GT; the LFA Concept has no published powertrain output or range figures, and the GR GT3 is designed for racing rather than road use.

What Toyota means by carrying the craft forward
Toyota and Lexus connect the three vehicles to the heritage of the Toyota 2000GT and the original Lexus LFA. Toyota frames the work as “Toyota’s Shikinen Sengu,” an analogy to the periodic rebuilding of Shinto shrines and the transfer of specialist skills to a younger generation. Toyota says veterans who worked on the original Lexus LFA passed techniques and knowledge to younger team members.

When will the GR GT go on sale?
On December 5, 2025, Toyota Gazoo Racing said it was continuing development of the GR GT and GR GT3 toward launching them “around 2027.” That is a target, not a confirmed on-sale date. The cited announcements do not give final specifications, retail prices, production volumes, or market availability. The timing statement applies to the GR GT and GR GT3; Lexus did not announce a production or launch plan for the LFA Concept.
