The Leader Edition is announced at ₹36,51,000 ex-showroom for the 4×2 MT and ₹38,72,000 for the 4×2 AT; those are not on-road prices and must be reconfirmed in a dated dealer quotation.

What is new for 2026: Fortuner Leader Edition
Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced the Fortuner Leader Edition on 9 October 2026, with bookings opening from 12 October 2026. The launch announcement names two configurations: 4×2 manual (MT) and 4×2 automatic (AT). It does not announce a Leader Edition 4WD version, so buyers who require low-traction capability should not treat this edition as a substitute for a diesel 4WD grade.
Price, colours and exterior changes
The announced ex-showroom prices are ₹36,51,000 for the Leader Edition 4×2 MT and ₹38,72,000 for the 4×2 AT. These figures are manufacturer-announced prices for 2026, not registration-inclusive or on-road quotes. The available colours listed in the announcement are Super White, Platinum White Pearl and Attitude Black.

Visual additions include a signature grille, black exterior accents and roof treatment, and gloss-black alloy wheels. Ask the dealer to identify every exterior item on the order form, because the equipment list governing your car is the grade-specific document rather than a showroom display vehicle.
Cabin and convenience additions
The Leader Edition announcement lists black-and-maroon upholstery and door trims, ambient lighting, illuminated scuff plates, auto-folding outside mirrors and a tyre-pressure monitoring system. These additions make the edition a styling and convenience choice within the announced 4×2 grades; they do not change its basic 4×2 drivetrain.
Warranty, roadside assistance and finance
TKM’s announcement states five years of complimentary roadside assistance and a standard warranty of three years or 100,000 km, extendable to five years or 220,000 km. It also refers to a customisable Toyota Smiles Plus service programme and flexible finance options, including plans of up to seven years. Request the governing written terms before signing: confirm exclusions, distance limits, whether an extension or service package costs extra, interest rate, processing fees, down payment and total repayment.

Toyota’s product materials describe a broader range than the Leader Edition launch grades. Exact grade names and combinations can vary by location and model year, so use the local dealer’s current specification sheet when comparing cars.

Petrol or diesel?
Start with your usage pattern. List annual kilometres, typical trip length, passenger and luggage load, fuel availability, likely low-emission restrictions and the kind of roads you actually drive. Diesel’s published torque figures may be useful for sustained loads or demanding gradients, while petrol can make sense for lower annual use or buyers who prefer its operating characteristics. The available material does not establish an independent fuel-economy comparison, so do not promise a payback period from the engine specifications alone.
Manual, iMT or automatic?
A manual gives direct clutch control but requires more work in traffic. An iMT automates clutch operation while retaining a manual-style transmission layout; confirm the exact implementation during a drive. An automatic is usually the easiest choice for congested urban routes, but test low-speed response, parking manoeuvres and kick-down behaviour in the specific vehicle. Do not assume that an automatic grade has identical equipment to a manual grade.
Is 4WD worth choosing?
4WD is justified when your routes include loose surfaces, steep or slippery tracks, regular towing or remote travel where traction margin matters. For mostly paved urban and highway use, a 2WD grade may avoid the cost and weight of hardware you rarely use. Toyota’s materials list 4WD-specific hill/descent and drive controls; verify their presence, operating instructions and ground-clearance implications on the exact grade. A Leader Edition booking cannot be converted into 4WD because the announced edition is 4×2 only.
Seats, dimensions and everyday practicality
Toyota lists seven seats, overall dimensions of 4,795 × 1,855 × 1,835 mm, a 2,745 mm wheelbase and an 80-litre fuel tank. Those numbers explain why the Fortuner can feel substantial in a city, but they do not tell you whether it will fit your home or routine.

What to inspect in person
- Fold and unfold the third row yourself. Check knee room, headroom, seat-belt access and the effort needed to reach it from the second row.
- Load the luggage you normally carry with all seven seats in use; the usable cargo area can be more important than the headline seating count.
- Measure your garage entrance, ramp, parking bay and turning space against the vehicle’s width and height. Include mirrors and roof treatment when checking clearance.
- Adjust the driver’s seat, check sight lines over the bonnet, and test the turning circle and camera visibility in the places where you park.
- Make sure child seats fit the available ISOFIX and tether points without preventing the second-row seat from moving.
Safety and equipment: compare the grade, not the badge
Toyota’s published materials list seven SRS airbags, stability control, traction control and ISOFIX/tether anchorage. They also show 4WD-specific hill and descent functions and drive controls on applicable grades. The brochure warns that equipment can vary by grade and that pictured accessories may be optional third-party items fitted after sale.
Ask for a printed or emailed specification sheet that names the exact model year, grade code, engine, transmission and drivetrain. Tick each safety and convenience item against that sheet. Do not infer that an item shown on a higher trim, a display vehicle or a promotional image is standard on the car you are booking.
What the published price does—and does not—tell you
The Leader Edition figures are ex-showroom. Your final amount will depend on the registration jurisdiction, applicable taxes, insurance, accessories, optional products and dealer charges. Toyota’s product page does not provide one universal live on-road price because these elements vary by location and date.
Request a dated, itemised quotation showing the base ex-showroom amount, registration and statutory charges, insurance policy and premium, accessories, handling or logistics fees, extended warranty, service package, finance charges and any discount. Ask whether each line is mandatory, optional or removable. Recalculate the total if you change colour, drivetrain, insurance provider or accessory selection.

TKM’s release reports more than 3.3 lakh Fortuners sold. That is a manufacturer-reported cumulative figure, not an independent reliability, resale-value or market-share study. The available material does not establish comparative reliability, fuel economy or resale statistics; treat dealer claims about those subjects as claims to verify, not guaranteed outcomes.
Before-booking checklist
Complete these checks before transferring money or accepting a digital booking form.
- Identify the exact car. Write the grade code or full variant name, model year, engine, transmission and drivetrain on the order form. Ensure the displayed equipment list matches that grade.
- Get the price in writing. Request a dated, itemised on-road quote for your registration address. It should separate taxes, insurance, accessories, handling or other dealer charges and optional products from the vehicle price.
- Confirm allocation. Ask the selected dealership to confirm stock or allocation, expected delivery window, chosen colour and the procedure if that grade or colour becomes unavailable.
- Read booking conditions. Check the booking amount, cancellation and refund rules, payment schedule, balance-payment deadline and delivery conditions. Keep the booking reference and a stamped or acknowledged customer order form.
- Verify ownership benefits. Obtain written warranty, roadside-assistance and service-programme terms, including duration, kilometre limits, exclusions and package costs. For the Leader Edition, specifically verify the announced three-year/100,000 km warranty, any extension to five years/220,000 km and five years of roadside assistance.
- Separate genuine and third-party accessories. Ask whether each accessory is Toyota Genuine or supplied by another company, when it will be fitted, its individual price and how installation affects warranty. Confirm model year, grade, measurements and seller specifications before ordering any external accessory.
- Arrange the right test drive. Drive the exact engine, gearbox and drivetrain you are considering. Include a slow traffic section, a tight parking manoeuvre, a broken or inclined road where safe, and a highway-speed stretch if available.
- Inspect the delivery plan. Ask how the vehicle will be inspected before handover, what documents will be supplied, when temporary and permanent registration are handled, and how defects or transit damage are recorded.
How Toyota’s booking process works
Toyota’s online terms describe booking through a selected dealer. After an online booking, you receive a booking reference and then contact that dealership about variant availability, balance payment and delivery details. The dealer is the party that can confirm local stock, allocation and the final payable amount.
Toyota reserves the right to change prices, models, variants, specifications and features. Keep a copy of the terms and the version of the quotation used when you paid. If the dealer proposes a substitute grade, colour or feature set, compare the revised specification and price before agreeing; do not rely on a verbal assurance that the replacement is equivalent.

Test-drive questions that reveal the right variant
In urban traffic
- Does the automatic creep smoothly when parking or inching through congestion?
- Is the clutch effort and first-gear response manageable in the manual?
- Can every driver see the corners and judge the vehicle’s width confidently?
On open roads
- Does the selected engine provide the acceleration you need with a full passenger load?
- Are wind, tyre and suspension responses acceptable at your normal cruising speed?
- Can you reach the controls without taking attention from the road?
For family use
- Can the people who will use the third row enter and exit without help?
- Do child seats, luggage and the seating plan work together?
- Are the doors, tailgate and second-row mechanisms easy for every regular user?
Accessories and post-sale questions
Toyota acknowledges optional accessories, but its brochure notes that some pictured items are third-party products fitted after sale at the customer’s option. Treat an accessory as a separate purchase: obtain its supplier, fitment point, warranty treatment, price and effect on delivery timing in writing. Check compatibility with the precise model year, grade, wheel size and sensors before payment. A generic listing or photograph is not proof of fitment.
For service planning, ask the dealer for the interval schedule, labour and consumables pricing, roadside-assistance activation method and the terms of any Toyota Smiles Plus package. If finance is involved, compare the total amount payable rather than only the monthly instalment, and request all fees and conditions in the sanction document.
A practical decision rule
Choose a petrol 2WD grade when your annual use and routes do not justify diesel torque or 4WD hardware, and when its driving feel suits you. Choose diesel when your use regularly involves long trips, heavy loads or terrain where its published torque advantage is relevant. Add 4WD only when you can name the roads and conditions that require it. Choose the Leader Edition when its 4×2 limitation fits your routes and you value its announced appearance and convenience additions; do not select it merely because it is the newest badge.

Finish the purchase only after the grade, drivetrain, colour, equipment, on-road total, delivery window and ownership terms are documented. That written match between the car you tested and the car you book is more valuable than a broad trim label or an unitemised discount.
