In an August 22, 2024 report, Autoua.net attributed remarks to Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda suggesting he wanted to develop a Century GRMN that more people could ride. The report describes a Century GRMN SUV and says Toyoda mentioned China, but it is not a Toyota launch announcement or a confirmed production plan. Toyota’s official material published since then provides Century brand context and confirms GRMN development on the Corolla—not a Century GRMN’s specifications or release.
What Akio Toyoda reportedly said
Autoua.net reported that Toyoda made the remarks during a meeting with Century owners in China. It quoted him as saying: “The Century I own is the only GRMN there is for now. Next, I want to make a GRMN that many people from around the world can ride.” The report also said he indicated the Century GRMN would come to China, while telling customers they would “need to wait a bit.” Read the August 22, 2024 report.
The report distinguishes the proposed vehicle from Toyoda’s own GRMN Century, which it describes as a one-off. The remarks point to an ambition for a more widely available vehicle; they do not establish that Toyota had approved production, opened orders, or set a timetable. The direct transcript of the 2024 meeting is not available in the cited material, so the statement should be understood as Autoua.net’s attribution.
Is a Century GRMN confirmed for production?
Not by the official Toyota sources cited here. Toyota’s October 29, 2025 Century press briefing describes the marque as a distinct brand and discusses its intended cultural and long-term positioning, but it does not announce a Century GRMN. Toyoda framed Century as more than a car name, saying it “symbolizes a heartfelt desire for world peace and an endeavor to shape the next 100 years from Japan.” That is Toyota’s Century-brand vision, not confirmation of a performance derivative. Toyota continues to use the GRMN designation elsewhere. In June 2026, the company announced a GRMN Corolla developed with motorsports-derived know-how. That shows GRMN remains an active performance designation, but the Corolla is a separate model: its engineering, development history and sales information cannot be applied to a Century SUV. What is known—and what is not
The available information supports a reported aspiration for a Century GRMN SUV, not a published vehicle specification. Toyota’s subsequent official Century and GRMN announcements do not fill in the missing details.
