Toyota Camry Maintenance Cost and Common Problems

RepairPal’s $388 annual Camry estimate is a third-party average. The right maintenance schedule depends on model year and configuration, while problem reports and recalls need to be checked against the individual car.

RepairPal estimates the Toyota Camry’s average annual repair and maintenance cost at $388, but that is a third-party average—not a fixed bill or Toyota quote. For maintenance, follow the schedule for your Camry’s model year and configuration; for possible problems or recalls, check evidence and status for the specific vehicle.

How much does Toyota Camry maintenance cost?

RepairPal’s Camry page lists an average annual repair and maintenance cost of $388 (accessed in 2026). RepairPal says actual costs vary with vehicle age, mileage, location, and repair shop, so the figure is a broad estimate—not a prediction for a particular car or a complete service budget. Toyota does not publish a Camry-wide annual cost figure in the sources cited here.

RepairPal also lists prices for individual repairs on its live page. Those estimates can change, and combining separate repair examples would not produce a reliable annual maintenance total. For a useful budget, consider the car’s year, mileage, service history, condition, and local estimates for the work it actually needs. See RepairPal’s Camry cost and service page.

What maintenance schedule should a Camry follow?

Toyota says many of its vehicles have maintenance visits every 5,000 miles or six months, with work ranging from inspections and tire rotations to more involved services at mileage milestones. That is general guidance, not a complete schedule for every Camry. Toyota directs owners to the vehicle’s personalized maintenance schedule and Owner’s Manual.

Toyota Camry 2007 thru 2017 Haynes Repair Manual- Includes Avalon and Lexus ES 350: Includes Essential Information for Today's More Complex Vehicles (Haynes Automotive)
  • Step-by-step procedures written from a complete teardown and rebuild, giving you the confidence to tackle repairs at any skill level.
  • Over 700+ clear photos and diagrams that simplify complex systems, helping you complete jobs faster and with fewer mistakes.
  • Comprehensive troubleshooting and fault-finding guides to quickly diagnose problems and reduce costly downtime.

Use the guide for the exact model year and configuration rather than assuming one Camry schedule applies across years or powertrains. For example, Toyota’s 2024 Camry Warranty and Maintenance Guide sets out scheduled service and a maintenance log for that model year. Toyota’s maintenance schedule page points owners to vehicle-specific guidance.

When buying routine service parts

The 2024 guide includes engine oil and oil-filter service. A Camry oil filter must match the vehicle’s year and engine; check the Owner’s Manual or confirm fitment with a reliable parts lookup before buying.

What common Toyota Camry problems are reported?

Reported problems are not proof of a universal defect, and the available sources use different methods. RepairPal lists automatic-transmission hesitation as its most commonly reported Camry problem and shows 190 problems on its Camry page. That number is a count of listings on the platform, not a failure rate or a count of cars affected. Its separate Camry problems and complaints page lists additional complaint categories.

Consumer Reports uses subscriber surveys, and the trouble categories it displays vary by model year. Its 2024 Camry page includes exhaust and paint/trim categories; its 2025 page includes in-car electronics and engine-related categories such as engine minor and engine cooling. These survey categories are signals to investigate for the particular car, not confirmation that all vehicles of that year have those problems.

Because complaint listings and survey results are not directly comparable, they should not be combined into a single ranked list or treated as a diagnosis. The cited evidence does not establish one universally “bad” Camry year or support a definitive avoid list. See Consumer Reports’ 2024 Camry reliability page and 2025 Camry reliability page for their year-specific survey categories.

What to check on a specific used Camry

  • Review service records against the schedule for that model year and configuration.
  • Look for warning lights or unusual operating behavior, including transmission hesitation.
  • Consider a pre-purchase inspection to assess the individual vehicle’s condition.
  • Check open recalls by VIN rather than inferring coverage from model year alone.

How to check Camry recalls

Recall campaigns apply to particular vehicles, and both applicability and remedy status are vehicle-specific. Use the VIN lookup resources from NHTSA or Toyota’s owner portal to check a car and confirm whether a remedy is available or has been completed.

In an August 11, 2026 report, the Associated Press described Toyota recalling about 655,000 Camrys globally over a display error that could affect safety indicators; certain 2025–2026 Camry Hybrids were included in the U.S. portion. That reported population does not show whether an individual car is covered. Verify the VIN through Toyota or NHTSA for current campaign information. Read the Associated Press report.
