Rocky Auto’s R3000GT is an open-top replica inspired by Toyota’s 2000GT—not a factory-built Toyota convertible. New Atlas reported in May 2024 that the modern roadster uses a 225-hp engine, compared with the 150 hp it gives for the original 2000GT. That is a 50% increase by calculation, not a Toyota-published specification.
What is the Toyota 3000GT super-roadster?
The R3000GT is a modern reproduction by Japanese specialist Rocky Auto, styled after the Toyota 2000GT. The “3000GT” name refers to Rocky Auto’s replica; it does not make the car an official Toyota model. New Atlas reported that Rocky digitized an actual 2000GT and worked with original designer Satoru Nozaki on the project.
The distinction matters because the 2000GT is a rare production sports car, while the R3000GT is a separately built replica. New Atlas reported total production of 351 original 2000GTs. The original’s open-top appearance also has a specific history: the convertible was a film-related one-off, not a body style Toyota offered for series production. New Atlas’s May 14, 2024 report is the source for the R3000GT details below.
How does the R3000GT get 50% more power?
New Atlas attributes a 3.0-liter Toyota Supra 2J engine producing 225 hp to the R3000GT. It gives the original 2000GT’s output as 150 hp. Comparing those reported figures, the replica has 75 hp more: 75 divided by 150 is 50%. This is a comparison of the outputs in that report, not an independently verified test or a claim that every R3000GT build has identical specifications.

How does it differ from the original 2000GT?
| Feature | Rocky Auto R3000GT | Toyota 2000GT |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Modern Rocky Auto reproduction inspired by the Toyota | Original Toyota production sports car |
| Body style | Open-top roadster | Production model was not offered as a convertible; New Atlas describes a film-related one-off open car |
| Engine output | 225 hp, attributed to a 3.0-liter Supra 2J engine by New Atlas in 2024 | 150 hp, as reported by New Atlas in 2024 |
| Chassis and equipment | New Atlas reports a stronger chassis retaining the older car’s geometry, plus modern convenience and control equipment | Period specification; a detailed equipment comparison is not stated in the report |
New Atlas lists the R3000GT at 1,090 kg. The report’s accompanying pound conversion conflicts with that metric figure, so the kilogram value is the safer one to cite.
What modern equipment does the replica have?
New Atlas says the R3000GT combines the older car’s geometry with a stronger chassis and lists these modern features:
