Short answer: Tata has several cars with at least one variant below ₹15 lakh ex-showroom in the October 2026 national price snapshot. The practical shortlist is the Tiago, Altroz, Punch, Nexon, Tiago EV, Punch EV and Tigor EV, with only lower-priced variants of the Curvv and Nexon EV qualifying. There is no single best choice for every buyer: your body-style preference, fuel access, charging situation, transmission requirement and city-level on-road budget determine the right model.
All figures in this article are ex-showroom prices unless explicitly marked otherwise. A ₹15 lakh on-road limit is tighter because it also includes registration, insurance and any accessories or local charges. Tata’s official price pages require you to select a location, so obtain a city-configured quotation before treating any variant as affordable.

What “under ₹15 lakh” means for a Tata car
The national figures below are a screening tool, not a dealer invoice. Ex-showroom pricing is the vehicle price before registration and road tax, insurance, and optional accessories. Those additions vary by state, city, insurance choice and dealership. Consequently, a car listed at ₹14.52 lakh ex-showroom may exceed a ₹15 lakh on-road ceiling, while a much cheaper ex-showroom car gives you more room for mandatory charges.

October 2026 Tata price screen
CarDekho’s October 2026 India price list gives the following ex-showroom ranges. A range that crosses ₹15 lakh means you must filter by variant rather than assume the whole model qualifies.
| Model | October 2026 ex-showroom range | Under ₹15 lakh? | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tata Tiago | ₹4.77–8.62 lakh | Yes, entire listed range | Every listed price is below the ex-showroom ceiling. |
| Tata Punch | ₹5.75–10.77 lakh | Yes, entire listed range | All listed variants remain below ₹15 lakh ex-showroom. |
| Tata Altroz | ₹6.00–10.90 lakh | Yes, entire listed range | All listed variants remain below the ceiling. |
| Tata Nexon | ₹7.40–14.52 lakh | Yes, entire listed range | The top of the listed range is still below ₹15 lakh ex-showroom, but on-road totals can exceed it. |
| Tata Tiago EV | ₹6.99–10.09 lakh | Yes, entire listed range | All listed prices are below the ex-showroom ceiling. |
| Tata Punch EV | ₹9.79–12.99 lakh | Yes, entire listed range | All listed prices are below the ex-showroom ceiling. |
| Tata Tigor EV | ₹12.49–13.75 lakh | Yes, entire listed range | All listed prices are below the ex-showroom ceiling, before on-road costs. |
| Tata Curvv | ₹10–19 lakh | Only lower variants | Some versions qualify; versions above ₹15 lakh do not. |
| Tata Nexon EV | ₹12.49–17.89 lakh | Only lower variants | Only the portion of the range below ₹15 lakh qualifies. |
ZigWheels’ model index, updated October 13, 2026, lists starting prices of ₹5.30 lakh for Aeris and ₹11.49 lakh for Sierra, alongside the models in the table. Because the available information does not establish their complete current variant ranges or local availability, confirm both nameplates directly with Tata before making them the basis of a purchase decision.
Best Tata car under ₹15 lakh by buyer priority
| If your priority is… | Start with | Why it belongs on the shortlist | What to verify before booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lowest entry price | Tiago | Its ₹4.77–8.62 lakh ex-showroom range leaves the greatest headroom for registration and insurance. | Exact fuel and transmission combination, rear-seat and luggage needs, and your city’s on-road quote. |
| A hatchback with a higher equipment emphasis | Altroz | Its ₹6.00–10.90 lakh range stays comfortably below the ex-showroom cap; Tata’s current page lists six airbags and ESP as standard. | Whether the specific model year and chosen variant retain the listed standard equipment. |
| Compact-SUV form factor | Punch | Its ₹5.75–10.77 lakh range covers the complete listed line-up under the ex-showroom ceiling. | Variant equipment, seating and cargo practicality for your regular trips. |
| More budget headroom for a larger compact-SUV choice | Nexon | Its ₹7.40–14.52 lakh range includes the entire listed range under ₹15 lakh ex-showroom. | On-road total, powertrain and transmission of the exact trim; the national range is not a city quote. |
| An entry EV with a lower purchase price | Tiago EV | Its ₹6.99–10.09 lakh ex-showroom range is the lowest of Tata’s EV ranges listed here. | Home-charging feasibility, public-charger access, trip length and the exact charging equipment supplied. |
| An electric compact SUV shape | Punch EV | Its ₹9.79–12.99 lakh range is below the ex-showroom ceiling across the listed range. | City on-road quote, charging setup and whether your regular routes suit an EV. |
| An electric sedan body style | Tigor EV | Its ₹12.49–13.75 lakh range remains below ₹15 lakh ex-showroom. | Remaining budget for registration and insurance, plus charging access and boot requirements. |
| A newer, coupe-SUV-style option | Curvv lower variants only | The listed range begins at ₹10 lakh, but extends to ₹19 lakh, so only specified versions qualify. | The exact variant price and equipment; do not treat the model’s starting price as representative of every trim. |
| An electric SUV with a lower-priced entry version | Nexon EV lower variants only | The listed range begins at ₹12.49 lakh, while higher versions exceed ₹15 lakh. | Whether the chosen variant remains below your city-level on-road limit. |
Tata Tiago: the widest budget cushion
The Tiago’s October 2026 ex-showroom range is ₹4.77–8.62 lakh. Since even the listed upper figure is below ₹15 lakh, it is the easiest model on this list to keep within a strict total budget after adding registration and insurance. That does not mean every Tiago configuration has the same equipment or operating requirements: choose the actual fuel and transmission combination, not just the model name.

Choose the Tiago when
- Your priority is keeping the purchase price low and preserving money for mandatory on-road charges.
- You mainly need a city-friendly hatchback and do not require an SUV body style.
- You are willing to compare the equipment and transmission of individual variants.
Check before committing
- Ask for the complete city-specific quote, including registration, insurance and every mandatory fee.
- Confirm the exact powertrain and transmission listed on the quotation.
- Assess rear-seat and luggage needs with the people and bags you normally carry.
Tata Altroz: a hatchback with clearly stated standard safety equipment
The Altroz is listed at ₹6.00–10.90 lakh ex-showroom for October 2026. Tata’s current Altroz page lists six airbags and electronic stability program (ESP) as standard equipment. Verify that information against the live configurator and the model-year brochure for the exact car you are ordering, because equipment can be revised by variant or model year.

Choose the Altroz when
- You want a hatchback rather than a compact SUV but still place strong emphasis on the standard safety kit identified on Tata’s current page.
- You need a car whose entire listed price range leaves room below the ex-showroom ceiling.
- You are comparing equipment variant by variant instead of assuming the top trim is required.
Important safety distinction
“Six airbags and ESP standard” describes the equipment listing on the current Altroz page; it is not an independent crash-test score. Do not substitute equipment claims for a crash-test result, and do not transfer a rating from another generation or variant without checking its test protocol and applicability.
Tata Punch: compact-SUV shape without crossing the national cap
The Punch is listed at ₹5.75–10.77 lakh ex-showroom. That complete national range is below ₹15 lakh, making it a straightforward candidate if you prefer a compact-SUV seating position or styling and still need budget space for on-road charges.
Choose the Punch when
- You prefer a compact-SUV form factor over a conventional hatchback.
- You want all listed Punch prices to remain below the ex-showroom limit, subject to your city’s taxes and insurance.
- You are prepared to compare the exact variant’s equipment rather than choosing solely by body style.
Do not skip the city quote
A Punch at the upper end of its national range may still push beyond ₹15 lakh on road in a particular state. Select your location on Tata’s official price page and request a written breakup before paying a booking amount.
Tata Nexon: the broadest conventional range near the ceiling
The Nexon range is ₹7.40–14.52 lakh ex-showroom. It therefore qualifies throughout the listed national range on an ex-showroom basis, but the ₹14.52 lakh upper figure leaves little room for registration and insurance under a ₹15 lakh on-road limit. Buyers should treat lower and mid-priced variants as more realistic starting points when the total budget is fixed.

Choose the Nexon when
- You want to investigate a compact SUV with a wider variant spread than the Punch.
- Your budget can accommodate a higher ex-showroom price, provided the city quote remains acceptable.
- You are comparing powertrain, transmission and equipment on the exact eligible trim.
Historical safety and price context
Tata’s September 14, 2023 Nexon launch release described six airbags, three-point seatbelts for all occupants, ISOFIX restraints and ESP, and gave an introductory starting price of ₹8.09 lakh. That ₹8.09 lakh figure is a historical launch price, not an October 2026 price. The release also dates the equipment statement to that launch; confirm current model-year equipment in Tata’s latest brochure and configurator rather than assuming every later variant is identical.
Electric choices: Tiago EV, Punch EV and Tigor EV
The national price screen places three Tata EV ranges entirely below ₹15 lakh ex-showroom: Tiago EV at ₹6.99–10.09 lakh, Punch EV at ₹9.79–12.99 lakh and Tigor EV at ₹12.49–13.75 lakh. The prices make them eligible for an ex-showroom shortlist, but an EV decision depends on charging access and usage as much as on the sticker price.
Tiago EV
At ₹6.99–10.09 lakh ex-showroom, the Tiago EV has the lowest listed EV entry point in this group. It is the logical first check for buyers who want to investigate electric driving while preserving the most purchase-price headroom. Confirm home-parking access, electrical installation requirements, public-charger availability on your regular routes and the charging equipment included with the exact variant.
Punch EV
The Punch EV range is ₹9.79–12.99 lakh ex-showroom. It suits buyers who want an EV in a compact-SUV shape and whose city quote still leaves room for registration and insurance. Compare the actual variant’s equipment and charging provisions; do not infer them from the starting price.

Tigor EV
The Tigor EV is listed at ₹12.49–13.75 lakh ex-showroom. Its higher starting point leaves less room under a ₹15 lakh on-road ceiling, so obtain the local quote before treating it as affordable. Its sedan form should be checked against your passenger and boot requirements, alongside home and public charging access.
EV checks that apply to all three
- Can you park close enough to install and use home charging?
- Are reliable public chargers available along your normal routes and at your destination?
- Does your regular trip pattern allow charging time and contingency for an unavailable charger?
- What is included in the written quotation: vehicle, charger, installation, insurance, registration and any optional accessories?
No current, model-specific range, charging-time or running-cost figures are established here, so request the exact variant’s official specifications and calculate your own route requirements rather than relying on a generic EV claim.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Curvv and Nexon EV: filter the variants, not just the model
The Curvv range is ₹10–19 lakh ex-showroom and the Nexon EV range is ₹12.49–17.89 lakh. Both therefore have versions below ₹15 lakh, but neither model qualifies as a whole. A dealer or online listing that advertises the starting price does not establish that a higher trim fits your budget.

How to screen a Curvv or Nexon EV
- Open Tata’s current model page and select your city.
- List only variants whose displayed ex-showroom price is below ₹15 lakh.
- Request the on-road breakup for each candidate, including registration and insurance.
- Remove any variant whose total exceeds your cap or whose required equipment is only available in a more expensive trim.
Do not describe the entire Curvv or Nexon EV range as “under ₹15 lakh”; the stated national ranges prove that higher versions cross the ceiling.

Petrol, CNG, diesel or EV: make the powertrain decision locally
The price list alone does not establish which fuel or transmission is best for you. Start with access and routine rather than a headline price.
Fuel access and route pattern
- For a conventional fuel car, identify the fuel stations you can use on ordinary routes and during longer trips.
- For an EV, verify home charging and dependable public charging before comparing purchase prices.
- Estimate your normal daily and weekly distance from actual travel, not an occasional long journey.
Transmission and variant
Transmission availability and equipment differ by variant. Ask the showroom to write the exact transmission and powertrain on the quotation, then compare like with like. A lower-priced model with the transmission you cannot use is not a genuine saving.
Do not import unsupported running-cost claims
Current model-specific range, fuel economy, charging time, battery warranty and reliability figures are not established by the price snapshot. Obtain those details from Tata’s current specification sheet and warranty documents for the variant you are considering.
Safety: separate standard equipment from test ratings
Safety shopping requires three separate checks:
- Standard equipment: confirm what is included on the exact variant. The current Altroz page lists six airbags and ESP as standard.
- Optional equipment: identify features that require a higher trim or an option pack; do not count them as standard.
- Independent ratings: verify the exact model generation, test protocol, test date and variant applicability. No current cross-model independent crash-test comparison is established in the available material.
The 2023 Nexon launch release is useful historical context, but its introductory ₹8.09 lakh price should not be used for a 2026 purchase calculation, and its launch equipment description should not be assumed to cover every later variant without confirmation.
How to get a dependable ₹15 lakh answer in your city
- Set the budget definition. Decide whether ₹15 lakh means ex-showroom or the final on-road amount. If it is on-road, leave room for registration, insurance and any unavoidable charges.
- Build a national shortlist. Use the ranges in the table to identify models and, for Curvv and Nexon EV, only the lower-priced portion of the range.
- Configure the city. On Tata’s official Punch, Altroz or Nexon price page, select your location. For another model, use Tata’s current model configurator or an authorised showroom.
- Select the exact variant. Record fuel or electric powertrain, transmission and model year. Do not compare one model’s base price with another model’s fully equipped trim.
- Request the itemised on-road quote. It should show ex-showroom price, registration or road tax, insurance, applicable charges and accessories separately.
- Check the safety and charging specification. Match the quotation to the latest brochure; for an EV, confirm charger and installation terms.
- Recheck immediately before payment. Prices can change, and a listing updated in October 2026 is not a promise that a dealer’s current invoice is identical.
Why older Tata price articles can be wrong
Tata Motors’ September 2025 release described potential GST-related price reductions effective September 22, 2025 and told customers to confirm exact prices with an authorised showroom. That announcement explains why older web pages may show figures that no longer match a later list, but it is not evidence of October 2026 prices. Treat any undated article as a lead, then replace its number with a current city-configured quote.
Common mistakes when shopping below ₹15 lakh
- Confusing ex-showroom with on-road: a ₹14–15 lakh ex-showroom car may exceed a ₹15 lakh final budget after taxes and insurance.
- Using a model’s starting price for every trim: Curvv and Nexon EV demonstrate why variant filtering is essential.
- Assuming launch pricing is current: the Nexon ₹8.09 lakh figure belongs to the September 2023 launch release.
- Assuming safety is uniform across years: verify the current brochure and exact variant; do not transfer a rating or equipment claim between generations.
- Choosing an EV without a charging plan: confirm home parking, installation and public-charger access before booking.
- Ignoring the city: registration and insurance vary, so a national list cannot answer an on-road question for an unspecified location.
- Adding accessories before confirming essentials: first establish the mandatory on-road total and the equipment included in the selected variant.
A practical decision path
Use this sequence to narrow the list without pretending there is a universal winner:
- If the lowest purchase price and maximum on-road headroom matter most, begin with Tiago.
- If you want a hatchback and want to verify a clearly stated standard safety kit, inspect Altroz.
- If you prefer a compact-SUV shape, compare Punch first, then Nexon if your city quote and preferred equipment justify the higher spend.
- If you want electric power, test charging practicality before choosing between Tiago EV, Punch EV and Tigor EV.
- If you are considering Curvv or Nexon EV, shortlist only the variants that remain below ₹15 lakh in your city’s configurator and then obtain an on-road quote.
- Book only after the written quote, equipment list and powertrain match your actual requirement.
The result is a conditional recommendation rather than a universal ranking: Tiago maximises price headroom, Altroz offers a hatchback route with six airbags and ESP listed as standard, Punch and Nexon cover compact-SUV preferences at different budget levels, and the three EVs make sense only when charging and route requirements are workable. Your city-level quotation decides which of those ex-showroom candidates truly fits ₹15 lakh.
