The list covers 16 categories, from SUVs and performance cars to a manufacturer award and a lifetime achievement honour.
The awards recognize cars Top Gear describes as launched in the preceding 12 months. The online announcement gives a short editorial rationale for some winners, but it does not publish a uniform scoring system or head-to-head measurements. Its category labels are therefore editorial awards, not a standardized ranking of every vehicle on the list.

Why the Renault 5 won Car of the Year
Top Gear’s explanation praises the Renault 5’s looks and the quality of its execution. That is the publication’s editorial judgment, rather than a result from a published points table or a claim that it is the best choice for every buyer.

Hyundai Santa Fe
Top Gear says the Santa Fe gets the essentials right, citing its design, thoughtfulness and versatility.

Volkswagen ID.Buzz 7-seat
The award blurb says the stretched seven-seat version was good enough to make the five-seater redundant. This is Top Gear’s assessment of the two versions, not a separate comparative test result.
Lamborghini Temerario
The Temerario won the forward-looking category for the car Top Gear was most anticipating driving in 2025. The award is about that anticipation; it should not be read as a completed 2024 comparative road test.

The 16 results do not all compare like with like. Most recognize a vehicle within a type or editorial theme, while Toyota’s award recognizes a manufacturer and Gordon Murray’s recognizes an individual. The list is useful for seeing which cars and people Top Gear chose to spotlight, but it does not establish a buyer’s ranking across categories.
