Tim Kuniskis did return to Stellantis after announcing his retirement in 2024, and he took over as Ram CEO on December 9, 2024. But he no longer heads Ram: Stellantis named Matt VanDyke Ram CEO effective July 20, 2026, with Kuniskis continuing in a broader role overseeing American brands and North American marketing and retail strategy.
Why Kuniskis retired—and when he returned
On May 17, 2024, Stellantis announced that Kuniskis would retire after nearly 32 years with the company, with leadership changes taking effect June 1. Under that plan, Chris Feuell would lead Ram as well as Chrysler, while Matt McAlear would lead Dodge. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares thanked Kuniskis for his “passion, commitment and contributions to Stellantis” and wished him well in retirement. Stellantis’s May 2024 announcement framed his departure as a retirement.
That departure did not last. The Associated Press reported on December 9, 2024, that Kuniskis had returned to Stellantis as Ram CEO, effective immediately. The appointment was part of management changes intended to bolster the company’s North American leadership. He was named to lead the Ram brand—not to become CEO of Stellantis as a whole. The AP report on his return confirms the timing and role.
His responsibilities expanded in 2025
On July 2, 2025, Stellantis appointed Kuniskis head of its American brands and gave him responsibility for North American marketing and retail strategy. He retained the Ram CEO position at that point. The company also announced the return of its SRT performance division under his leadership. Stellantis’s July 2025 announcement described his expanded remit. CEO Antonio Filosa said that connecting with customers and delivering the products and experiences they want was critical to reaching the company’s potential.

Who leads Ram now?
As of Stellantis’s latest leadership announcement, Ram’s CEO is Matt VanDyke. The company named him to the role effective immediately on July 20, 2026, saying he succeeded Kuniskis and reports to him. Kuniskis remains head of American brands and North American marketing and retail strategy; his current role is broader than leading Ram alone. The July 2026 Stellantis announcement establishes the change in Ram leadership.

So the headline’s “head up Ram again” describes a real chapter: Kuniskis returned to lead the brand in December 2024. It is no longer the current arrangement. Stellantis’s July 2026 announcement names VanDyke as Ram CEO and Kuniskis as his superior in the broader American-brands and North American strategy role. The announcements establish the sequence, but do not explain Kuniskis’s personal reason for returning.
