Thule says the Widesky’s foldable mattress forms a backrest, so two occupants can sit inside the tent as well as sleep there. It is a hardshell rooftop tent with a lounge-like interior, not a sofa that converts into a tent. Its dimensions, weight and fit requirements matter just as much as that seating feature when checking whether it suits your vehicle.
How the convertible mattress lounge works
The mattress folds into a backrest, creating a place to sit inside the Widesky. Thule presents this as a way to make the tent usable for relaxing during the day as well as sleeping at night. The manufacturer’s description establishes the intended design; no independent test results were found to assess how comfortable or supportive it is in use.
Thule also describes the gas-assisted mechanism as making setup and pack-down possible in seconds. That is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independently timed result. In its launch announcement, Thule Senior Category Manager Kajsa Levinsson described the tent as designed for people who want to sit back and enjoy the view; this is product positioning, not a review. For the US product page, Thule lists model 901052 in Dark Slate and 901053 in Ashland Grey. Its page listed Ashland Grey at $3,999.95 when retrieved and showed a notify-me option; price and stock can change by color and market. Thule’s launch announcement said the tent would be available in April 2026, but that announcement does not establish present inventory.
Materials, features and included items
Thule lists an aluminum shell and honeycomb base, recycled 600D polyester ripstop fabric, and a 6 cm quilted mattress. The stated interior features include a felt ceiling, two dimmable LEDs with USB connections, and four mesh pockets. The product page also lists a rear rainfly and says the ladder can be mounted on any side.

The USB power bank is sold separately, and Thule does not specify a particular power-bank model. Optional storage accessories, such as rooftop-tent or shoe organizers, should be checked for fit before purchase.
Check the roof rack and vehicle before buying
A tent’s broad compatibility language does not confirm that a particular vehicle-and-rack combination is suitable. Thule’s 2026 rack guidance gives a 70 cm minimum side-to-side spread and maximum rack-bar dimensions of 95 mm wide and 46 mm high. The US product listing specifies a 28 in minimum bar spread. Check the current instructions for the version you are buying and measure your rack against its requirements.

- Confirm bar spacing and shape. Measure the distance between the crossbars and check their width and height against Thule’s current Widesky guidance. Start with Thule’s rooftop-tent mounting and crossbar guidance and verify the specific requirements in current product instructions.
- Check vehicle roof-load limits. Consult the vehicle manufacturer’s roof-load rating and the rack manufacturer’s limits. Confirm which limits apply to your intended setup; a tent’s published capacity does not establish that the vehicle roof or rack can carry it.
- Verify the complete combination. Check that the rack is approved for your vehicle and that the tent’s mounting requirements are met. Ask the rack or tent manufacturer if the fit is unclear rather than assuming that a rack that physically fits is approved.
The US listing’s 147 lb figure is the tent’s weight without the ladder. It should not be treated as a statement that every vehicle or rack can support the tent; the relevant vehicle and rack limits still need to be checked.

The Widesky is worth considering if sitting inside the tent is a priority and you want a two-person hardshell with a mattress designed to fold into a backrest. The decision also depends on whether its published sleeping footprint, packed dimensions and weight work for your needs and whether your vehicle and rack meet the current fit requirements.
