The distinction matters: season titles reward consistency across a campaign, while Le Mans is a single 24-hour race. Across the 2023–2025 Le Mans editions covered by the available official reports, the 963 did not take the overall victory.
“Four championships” is a deliberately narrow count, not Porsche’s only official total. It refers here to the 963’s four season titles in 2024: the IMSA GTP drivers’, manufacturers’ and teams’ championships, plus the WEC Hypercar drivers’ championship. Porsche’s 2024 review reported seven of eight possible titles across the two series, because its North American campaign also included three Michelin Endurance Cup titles. The count changes with season, series and title category.
What the Porsche 963 has won—and what “four championships” means
The 963’s championship record is best read by series, season and title category. IMSA’s top class is GTP; the World Endurance Championship’s top class is Hypercar. A drivers’ title, a manufacturers’ title and a teams’ title are separate achievements, as are the Michelin Endurance Cup titles within IMSA.

The four-title headline refers to the three IMSA GTP season championships and the WEC Hypercar drivers’ championship in 2024. It is not a count of every trophy associated with the car: Porsche’s broader 2024 tally was seven of eight possible titles across IMSA and WEC, including endurance-cup championships.

Why championship pace has not become a Le Mans victory
A season championship and the overall Le Mans win test different things. A title is decided over multiple rounds, where a team can recover from a poor result and accumulate points. Le Mans is one race, and a car can be fast enough to contend yet lose the result through a single problem, penalty or strategic setback.
The 963’s first season showed progress without a title. Porsche’s 2023 works-team review reported three wins and nine podiums, alongside 103,306 kilometres driven by the works team: 63,180 in official sessions and 40,126 in testing. Porsche’s 2023 review also noted that the WEC Hypercar field combined LMDh and LMH cars, and that finding a suitable Balance of Performance across different concepts was difficult. That is relevant context for the mixed field, but it does not by itself explain any particular Le Mans result.
In 2024, the team converted its development into titles. Porsche Vice President of Motorsport Thomas Laudenbach said, “We brought the Porsche 963 and the entire program to the top within a short period of time.” The WEC manufacturers’ crown remained just out of reach, however: Porsche said it lost that title by two points. The Le Mans record, edition by edition
- 2023: The FIA’s classification placed the factory Porsche #5 963 ninth and the #6 eleventh overall. 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans final classification
- 2024: Porsche said its hoped-for 20th overall Le Mans victory did not materialize. Porsche’s 2024 season review
- 2025: Porsche came within 15 seconds of the overall win, but the #5 963 finished sixth after tyre damage and penalties. FIA WEC’s 2025 race report
These results establish no overall Le Mans victory for the 963 through the 2025 edition. They do not say the car has failed to win WEC races elsewhere, nor do they describe Porsche’s historic record as a marque. The cited reports do not establish a 2026 Le Mans result.

Porsche’s published totals differ because they were reported at different points and with different scopes. The 2025 IMSA report counted 11 IMSA wins, 12 titles and 9,441 championship points since the LMDh program’s 2023 launch. A later 2026 season-finale report gave a separate four-year North American tally of eight titles and 15 wins since the 2023 introduction of LMDh. These are not competing counts of the same narrowly defined set of trophies: one is an IMSA report and one is a broader North American cumulative figure, each current to its own report. 2025 IMSA report; 2026 season-finale report

The useful comparison is therefore not a single headline tally, but the combination of sustained championship performance and the still-missing overall Le Mans win. By 2025, Porsche was describing a prototype with repeated wins and titles; Le Mans remained the marquee result the record had not yet delivered.
