Those figures do not establish a definitive top ten, and manufacturers may measure cargo differently. The comparison below covers five model families, separates conventional hybrids from plug-in hybrids, and flags where the available specifications do not support a direct model-year comparison.
How to compare space in a three-row hybrid SUV
For a family that regularly carries passengers in the third row, start with cargo capacity behind that row—not the maximum cargo figure with seats folded. A maximum figure describes a hauling configuration in which some or all rear seats are unavailable to passengers.
Also check third-row legroom and headroom, whether the second row is a bench or captain’s chairs, and how easily passengers can reach the rear seats. Published cubic-foot figures are useful for narrowing choices, but manufacturers may use different measurement methods, so small differences should not be treated as a precise cross-brand ranking.
“Hybrid” can mean different powertrains. A conventional hybrid and a plug-in hybrid are separate choices; the models below are labeled accordingly. Bring your usual child seats, stroller, and luggage to a dealer if possible: published specifications cannot confirm fit or comfort for your household.

These are published manufacturer figures, not measurements made under one common test. The Kia Sorento’s 12.6-cu.-ft. figure is shown on a page displaying 2027 specifications, so it should not be used to rank a 2026 hybrid trim.

2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid: strong cargo-and-seat combination
Toyota’s 2026 model page lists seating for up to eight and 20.6 cu. ft. with the second and third rows up, making the Grand Highlander Hybrid the clearest verified choice here for families seeking both a full passenger layout and substantial published cargo room. Its stated maximum is up to 97.5 cu. ft. with rear seats folded; that is a different configuration, not the space available with all rows occupied. Toyota offers Hybrid and Hybrid MAX powertrains. 2026 Lexus TX: nearly the same published third-row cargo volume
Lexus reports 20.2 cu. ft. behind the third row of the 2026 TX, close to Toyota’s figure on this particular published measure. The TX also offers 57.4 cu. ft. with its third row folded and 97 cu. ft. with both rear rows folded. Lexus lists three powertrains, including a V6 plug-in hybrid. 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid: useful rear-seat dimensions, less cargo behind row three
Hyundai lists 30 inches of third-row legroom and 37.7 inches of third-row headroom for the 2026 Santa Fe Hybrid, alongside 14.6 cu. ft. behind the third row. The figures give shoppers more detail about the rear cabin than is available for some candidates, while its third-row-up cargo figure is below the Toyota and Lexus figures above. Hyundai labels this configuration a compact hybrid SUV; the three-row measurements apply to the specified Santa Fe Hybrid, not to every Santa Fe configuration. Kia’s Sorento specifications comparison displayed 2027 content when accessed and listed 12.6 cu. ft. behind the third row and 29.6 inches of third-row legroom. Those values should not be assigned to a 2026 hybrid trim. Kia’s separate 2026 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid page describes a three-row layout with a second-row bench and a 50/50 split-folding third row, and states up to 75.5 cu. ft. with the second and third rows folded. It does not provide an all-rows-up cargo figure in the cited material, so that PHEV cannot be ranked against the other candidates on this measure.

Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid: premium PHEV with a smaller stated third-row cargo area
Volvo lists 9.3 cu. ft. with the XC90 plug-in hybrid’s third row up. Depending on whether the vehicle has a six- or seven-seat layout, the figure with the second row up is 23.0 or 23.6 cu. ft.; Volvo lists 85.7 cu. ft. with the rows folded.
