The Volvo EX60 was revealed in Stockholm on January 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. CET. That was its public debut—not the start of production: Volvo Cars Group later reported that production began at its Torslanda plant on April 22, 2026. Volvo positions the EX60 as its first fully electric premium mid-size SUV.
When was the Volvo EX60 revealed?
Volvo revealed the all-electric EX60 at a livestreamed event in Stockholm on January 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. CET. The date and time are confirmed in Volvo’s event recap. Before the event, Volvo described the EX60 as its first fully electric car in the premium mid-size SUV segment.
The event announcement was a reveal date, not a production date. Volvo’s earlier announcement said production at Torslanda in Gothenburg was planned to begin in the first half of 2026; its later company report records the actual start.
When did EX60 production start?
Volvo Cars Group reported that production of the EX60 began at its Torslanda plant on April 22, 2026, in its Q1 2026 interim report. The January reveal and April production start are separate milestones.

What range and charging figures did Volvo announce?
Before the reveal, Volvo’s January 8, 2026 US media release said the all-wheel-drive EX60 could achieve up to 400 miles of range and add up to 173 miles in 10 minutes using a 400 kW fast charger. These were Volvo’s preliminary estimates, not final EPA ratings or independently verified test results. Volvo said official EPA estimates would follow and that the figures were not guaranteed. See the January 8 release for the company’s qualifications.
Volvo said the 10-minute charging estimate was based on testing at 400 kW charging facilities. Actual range and charging time can vary with vehicle specification, tires, charge level, temperature, weather, accessories, terrain, driving style, speed, and other environmental or vehicle conditions. The announced figures therefore describe Volvo’s preliminary claims, not a guarantee of what a particular driver will get.

How does Volvo explain the EX60’s performance?
Volvo attributed the range and charging claims to its SPA3 electric architecture, cell-to-body battery integration, in-house electric motors and software, mega casting, and an 800-volt electrical system. These are the manufacturer’s explanations, not independent comparative findings.
In the same release, Volvo Chief Technology Officer Anders Bell called the EX60 “designed to be a gamechanger” and said it would address customer concerns about switching to an electric car. His assertion that the vehicle marks “the end of range anxiety” is Volvo’s marketing language, not an established outcome for every driver.
