The Cybertruck was unveiled in 2019, but Tesla did not begin delivering it to customers until November 2023. The gap separates an early public concept from a production vehicle that arrived after a long development and manufacturing ramp. Since launch, Tesla has also issued distinct recalls affecting certain vehicles—not every Cybertruck—for issues ranging from a body panel to software and propulsion.

How the Cybertruck story began

Tesla’s corporate biography dates the Cybertruck unveiling to 2019. In its 2019 annual filing, the company described it as a planned specialized consumer electric vehicle and later noted significant interest following the unveiling. Those records establish the year and broad positioning, but they do not provide a complete event transcript or a reliable, specification-by-specification account of how the production truck changed from the concept.

That distinction matters: early plans and concept details should not be treated as specifications of the vehicle customers eventually received. The available first-party records also do not establish every schedule change or explain each cause of delay, so a precise, complete chronology of the intervening years cannot be responsibly reconstructed from them.

From planned vehicle to customer deliveries

Date What Tesla reported What it establishes
2019 Tesla’s biography dates the unveiling to 2019; its 2019 filing describes Cybertruck as a planned specialized consumer electric vehicle. The vehicle was publicly introduced as a plan, not delivered to customers that year.
October 2023 Tesla said initial deliveries would begin in November and listed Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas in pilot production. Delivery timing had been announced, while production was still described as pilot production.
November 2023 Tesla’s 2024 annual filing confirmed that first customer deliveries occurred in November 2023. The first deliveries came roughly four years after the unveiling.

The sequence is supported by Tesla’s 2019 annual filing, October 2023 update, and 2024 annual filing. It documents a lengthy path from unveiling to first customer deliveries without assigning unsupported explanations to the delay.

What the production Cybertruck is

Tesla’s 2024 filing characterizes Cybertruck as a full-size electric pickup with a stainless-steel exterior. Its current product page presents it as a working pickup, emphasizing a bed and cargo capacity alongside outlets, towing, off-road modes, steer-by-wire, and rear steering.

Tesla’s product page lists a 6-by-4-foot bed, up to 120 cubic feet of cargo space, up to 9.6 kW of total outlet output, and up to 11,000 pounds of towing capacity. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results; the applicable figure can depend on market and configuration, so check the live Cybertruck product page for the version being considered. Tesla also advertises available driver-assistance features and a five-star overall NHTSA rating. A comparative safety conclusion would require consulting the underlying NHTSA assessment.

The current feature list shows how Tesla now positions the truck, but it should not be read backward as a record of what was promised at the 2019 unveiling. The first-party material cited here does not support a comprehensive numerical comparison between concept-era and production specifications.

Selected recalls and what owners should do

Tesla’s recall notices describe separate campaigns with different affected build populations and remedies. A campaign does not mean that every Cybertruck is affected, and checking the model name alone is not enough to determine a particular vehicle’s status.

Campaign Vehicles or condition identified by Tesla Issue and remedy described by Tesla
Cantrail assembly Certain model-year 2024 and 2025 vehicles built November 13, 2023 through February 27, 2025. A stainless-steel panel may delaminate and separate, creating a road hazard. Tesla says it will replace the assembly at no charge. Tesla recall notice.
Drive inverter Certain model-year 2024 vehicles built November 6, 2023 through July 30, 2024. A fault may stop torque production and cause loss of propulsion. Tesla’s stated remedy is no-charge inverter replacement. Tesla recall notice.
Rearview-camera display Certain model-year 2024 vehicles with the identified software condition. The camera image may not appear within the required two seconds after shifting into reverse. Tesla says software version 2024.32.5.2 or later corrects the condition through an over-the-air update. Tesla recall notice.
Front parking-lamp intensity Certain model-year 2024–2026 vehicles built November 13, 2023 through October 11, 2025 and running software earlier than 2025.38.3. Tesla says an over-the-air update to version 2025.38.3 or later corrects the output. Tesla recall notice.

Owners should check the vehicle identification number (VIN) through Tesla’s recall lookup or NHTSA’s VIN recall search, then follow the instructions for any campaign that applies. Tesla directs owners to check by VIN; a general recall description cannot establish whether a specific vehicle is included or whether its remedy has been completed.

What the sales record does—and does not—show

Tesla’s reviewed annual filing does not provide a standalone Cybertruck delivery series. Company-wide delivery totals combine vehicles, so they cannot be used to calculate Cybertruck sales without separate supporting data. The documented milestone is that Tesla reported first customer deliveries in November 2023—not a model-specific total.
