The update is often called “Juniper” in media coverage, while Tesla calls it the “new Model Y.” Here’s what’s different—and which claims and specifications depend on Tesla, the market or the trim.
What changed on the outside?
The most obvious revisions are the front and rear lightbars, but Tesla’s redesign also includes new bodywork. Tesla describes a lower nose, redesigned front fascia and aerodynamic ducts, plus a redesigned tailgate, spoiler, rear fascia and diffuser. New wheels include a 19-inch Crossflow design. Tesla says the exterior changes are intended to improve aerodynamic efficiency and high-speed stability; those are the company’s stated goals, not independently verified results.
Car and Driver’s January 10, 2025 report on the initial China-market reveal also noted full-width front and rear lighting. It characterized most of the remaining exterior changes as subtler. The report covered the reveal, not a current specification sheet for every market.
How is the cabin different?
Tesla describes wraparound multicolor ambient lighting, revised console details and materials, and sound-damping refinements. The front seats add ventilation, while second-row comfort changes include powered recline. Tesla also says a revised roof-glass coating reflects more solar energy.

Car and Driver’s early report noted a rear-seat display and available ventilated front seats. Equipment can vary by market and trim, so confirm that a specific car has the features you want.
Did Tesla change the controls?
According to Car and Driver’s report on the reveal, the refreshed Model Y retains a stalk-type turn-signal control rather than adopting the steering-wheel turn-signal buttons used in the refreshed Model 3. That distinction matters if you are comparing the two cars, but equipment and control details should still be checked for the specific market and configuration.

What changed in ride, noise and handling?
Tesla says the body structure is stiffer and that suspension geometry, kinematics and damping have been revised, using damping technology drawn from the upgraded Model 3. The company says the result is a more comfortable, quieter ride while retaining agility and handling.

What does Tesla claim about range?
Tesla says the new Model Y has 5% more range with the same battery energy than earlier Model Y vehicles. That is Tesla’s comparison, not an independently verified result in the sources cited here. The company’s overview also lists an AWD trim with an EPA-estimated 320-mile range and a 4.1-second 0–60 mph time. Those figures apply to that trim and market context, not every refreshed Model Y; actual range varies with configuration and driving conditions.

When did the refresh arrive, and do specifications vary?
Car and Driver’s January 10, 2025 article covered the initial reveal at Tesla’s China site and noted that North American specifications had not yet been announced at that point. Tesla’s overview, dated April 1, 2025 and last updated December 12, 2025, says North American deliveries began in March. The earlier report’s uncertainty reflects the rollout at the time, not the later status.
For current prices, trim names and equipment, check Tesla’s regional Model Y page and configurator. A dated overview or reveal report should not be treated as a complete current specification table across markets.

What should owners know about accessories?
Tesla says its front-trunk drain plug and accessory system are sold separately. The company describes possible uses for the system including a cooler, changing table or shopping-bag divider. The redesigned tow-hitch cover uses quarter-turn fasteners.
BASENOR’s commercial catalog lists products it describes as designed for the 2025–2026 refresh, including floor mats, a roof sunshade, mud flaps, trunk bins and bumper protection. The vendor warns that older Model Y accessories may not fit the refreshed model as intended. Treat that as vendor guidance rather than independent fitment verification. Before ordering, check the exact model year, trim, seating configuration, fitment evidence and return policy. If you are shopping for 2025 Tesla Model Y floor mats, do not assume an older Model Y set will fit.
