The Cadillac Escalade-V follows at 682 hp. That is a scoped comparison, not a verified ranking of every V8 SUV sold worldwide. The BMW XM appears above both in some broad SUV rankings, but its 738-hp figure is for a plug-in hybrid powertrain, not a V8 alone.
Which 2025 V8 SUV has the most horsepower?
The 2025 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat leads this confirmed U.S. comparison with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 rated at 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. The 2025 Cadillac Escalade-V and Escalade-V ESV use a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 rated at 682 hp and 653 lb-ft. These are manufacturer-published ratings, not independent test results. Stellantis’ 2025 Durango fact sheet and Cadillac’s North American specifications provide the respective figures.
| 2025 model | Engine and rated output | Torque | Notable published figures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat | Supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8; 710 hp | 645 lb-ft | Dodge reports 0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds, an 11.5-second NHRA-certified quarter-mile, a 180-mph top speed, maximum towing up to 8,700 lb, and seating for up to seven. |
| Cadillac Escalade-V | Supercharged 6.2L V8; 682 hp | 653 lb-ft | Cadillac lists maximum trailering of up to 7,200 lb and an overall length of 213 inches. |
| Cadillac Escalade-V ESV | Supercharged 6.2L V8; 682 hp | 653 lb-ft | Cadillac lists maximum trailering of up to 7,100 lb and an overall length of 228 inches. |
On horsepower, the Durango is ahead of either Cadillac by 28 hp. The Escalade-V has 8 lb-ft more listed torque. The Dodge performance and towing figures are manufacturer claims; Cadillac’s cited specifications cover the North American 2025 models. Sources: Stellantis and Cadillac.
Does the BMW XM count as the most powerful V8 SUV?
It depends on what “V8 SUV” means. Kelley Blue Book’s broad 2025 SUV ranking lists the BMW XM at 738 hp, above the Durango and Escalade, and describes the XM as a plug-in hybrid. Its figure is therefore not a like-for-like V8-only rating. If the comparison is about SUVs whose rated output comes from a conventional V8 powertrain rather than combined hybrid-system output, the XM should be separated from the ranking. Because the available evidence does not establish a complete worldwide list of every 2025 V8 SUV, the Durango’s lead here is best read as the highest confirmed non-hybrid V8 rating in the manufacturer evidence cited, not a definitive all-market record.
How the two leading V8 SUVs differ
Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat: performance with three-row utility
The Durango combines its 710-hp supercharged HEMI V8 with a three-row layout and seating for up to seven. Dodge’s published figures emphasize acceleration and towing: 0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds, an 11.5-second NHRA-certified quarter-mile, 180 mph top speed, and maximum towing up to 8,700 lb. These are Dodge’s claims, not independent road-test measurements. The figures make the Hellcat relevant to buyers weighing straight-line speed against family seating and trailer capacity. The Escalade-V is a full-size luxury SUV with 682 hp and 653 lb-ft. Cadillac offers the longer ESV alongside the standard-length version; its North American specifications list 213 inches overall for the Escalade-V and 228 inches for the ESV. The ESV’s listed maximum trailering capacity is 7,100 lb, compared with 7,200 lb for the standard Escalade-V. Source: Cadillac’s 2025 Escalade-V specifications.
What to compare beyond horsepower
A horsepower ranking answers only one question. Before choosing between these SUVs, compare the figures and fit that matter for your use:

- Powertrain: Check whether the published number is V8 output or combined output from a hybrid system.
- Torque and performance: The Escalade-V lists more torque, while Dodge publishes acceleration, quarter-mile, and top-speed figures for the Durango. Manufacturer figures are not substitutes for independent testing.
- Towing: Compare the exact configuration and the relevant manufacturer rating; the Durango’s maximum and Cadillac’s standard/ESV figures are not interchangeable guarantees for every vehicle or trailer setup.
- Space and seating: The Durango offers up to seven seats across three rows. The Cadillac’s ESV adds length; consider whether that larger footprint suits parking and daily use.
- Current local supply: Model year identifies the vehicle specification, not whether a new 2025 example is still available. Check dealer inventory in your area before treating either model as currently purchasable.
Is a 2025 model still available to buy?
The cited specifications identify 2025 model-year vehicles; they do not establish current October 2026 inventory or pricing. Stellantis announced that Durango special editions were available to order at dealerships when that release was issued, but that announcement does not confirm that a 2025 example remains for sale now. Verify live dealer listings and the vehicle’s model year, trim, and condition before making an availability or price comparison. Source: Stellantis’ September 2024 announcement.
For the Durango Hellcat, the dedicated Hellcat performance block and Stellantis fact sheet specify 710 hp. A broader Dodge page contains a conflicting 717-hp figure in a general SRT paragraph; the dedicated Hellcat and special-edition materials consistently identify 710 hp, so that is the rating used here.
