Among the 2024 heavy-duty diesel pickups covered by the available manufacturer specifications, Ford’s 6.7L High Output Power Stroke ranks first for peak horsepower at 500 hp. Ford’s standard-output Power Stroke follows at 475 hp, then GM’s 6.6L Duramax at 470 hp, and Ram’s High-Output Cummins at 420 hp. This is a ranking of engine ratings, not a test of complete trucks: the Duramax rating applies to both Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, while Ram’s High-Output Cummins is identified for the Ram 3500.
How this 2024 diesel-truck ranking works
“Most powerful” can mean horsepower, torque, towing capacity, or performance in a test. This ranking uses peak horsepower as its primary measure, then lists peak torque separately. The figures are manufacturer ratings, not results from a head-to-head road or dynamometer test.
That distinction matters because horsepower and torque are different measures and their peaks need not coincide. Ford’s 2024 Super Duty Pickup Towing Guide says its horsepower and torque “are independent attributes and may not be achieved simultaneously.” Ratings below retain each maker’s stated rpm where available.
The most powerful 2024 diesel trucks and engine options
The evidence supports five distinct engine-output entries, not six: the Silverado HD and Sierra HD share the same published Duramax rating, and listing them separately would duplicate an engine rating rather than establish another power level.

What the horsepower ranking says
1. Ford 6.7L High Output Power Stroke: 500 hp
Ford’s High Output version leads this comparison in both listed peak horsepower and peak torque, with 500 hp at 2,600 rpm and 1,200 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm. The 2024 Super Duty guide lists a 10-speed automatic as standard on all models.

2. Ford 6.7L standard-output Power Stroke: 475 hp
The standard-output Power Stroke is second by horsepower, rated at 475 hp at 2,600 rpm and 1,050 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm. Its torque rating is 25 lb-ft lower than the Ram High Output’s, even though it produces more peak horsepower.
3. GM 6.6L L5P Duramax: 470 hp
GM rates the Duramax at 470 hp at 2,800 rpm and 975 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm. The same published engine rating applies to Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD applications, so those are two truck lines but one power figure. GM says the engine produces 90% of peak torque from 1,550 through 2,850 rpm; that is the manufacturer’s description of its torque band, not an independent comparative test.

4. Ram 6.7L High-Output Cummins: 420 hp
The High-Output Cummins is identified as an option for the 2024 Ram 3500. Stellantis lists 420 hp at 2,800 rpm and 1,075 lb-ft at 1,800 rpm. Its horsepower is below the Duramax rating, but its peak torque is higher.
5. Ram 6.7L standard-output Cummins: 370 hp
The standard-output Cummins is rated at 370 hp at 2,800 rpm and 850 lb-ft at 1,700 rpm in the 2024 Ram 2500/3500 brochure. It is the lowest horsepower and torque entry in this set, but remains a separate factory output option rather than a different truck brand.

Which 2024 diesel truck has the most torque?
By manufacturer-listed peak torque, the Ford High Output Power Stroke leads at 1,200 lb-ft. The torque order differs from the horsepower order after first place: Ram’s High-Output Cummins has 1,075 lb-ft, ahead of Ford’s standard-output Power Stroke at 1,050 lb-ft, the Duramax at 975 lb-ft, and Ram’s standard-output Cummins at 850 lb-ft.
Peak torque alone does not establish which truck tows the most. Towing and payload limits depend on the specific truck configuration and equipment, so compare the rating for the exact cab, drivetrain, axle, and package rather than extrapolating from an engine figure.

What the ratings do—and do not—tell you
- Horsepower is the ranking rule here. It provides a consistent basis for ordering these published options, but it does not capture every aspect of real-world performance.
- Torque has its own ranking. The Ram High Output outranks both GM and Ford standard output by peak torque despite placing lower by horsepower.
- An engine rating is not a truck capability rating. Check the manufacturer’s towing and payload information for the precise model and equipment combination you are considering.
- There are five distinct engine-output entries in the evidence. Counting Silverado and Sierra as separate power rankings would repeat the same Duramax rating; the source set does not establish six distinct power figures.
Sources and model-year scope
The figures are for 2024 model-year heavy-duty pickups, as stated in Ford’s 2024 towing guide, Stellantis’ 2024 Ram materials, and GM’s L5P engine specifications for Silverado HD and Sierra HD applications. They should not be read as a current-model-year comparison or as claims about every trim and configuration.
