2. Range Rover Classic Chassis #001 — £132,250
British Classic Cars reports that Range Rover Classic Chassis #001 sold for £132,250 in September 2014, describing it as the model’s highest recorded auction result. This is a Range Rover Classic record, a narrower category than the broad classic Land Rover result above. The source does not establish that the two records come from a single, consistently defined global auction database. 3. 1976 Range Rover 4×4 — €120,750
Marque’s UK verified-sales table lists a 1976 Range Rover 4×4, chassis no. 35821294D, sold by Bonhams on 12 October 2025 for €120,750. It is a recent high result in that tracker, but its euro price should not be ranked numerically against sterling results without a specified conversion date and method. A high original price is not an auction record
Range Rover Linley — £100,000 new in 1999
The Range Rover Linley belongs in the conversation about costly Land Rovers, but on a different basis: Jaguar Land Rover’s heritage notes say it was introduced at the 1999 London Motor Show, limited to six cars and priced at £100,000 each. JLR described its launch as “the introduction of the most expensive Land Rover yet.” That was a statement about the car’s original price at the time, not a modern auction result. Record prices versus typical market prices
A record sale describes an exceptional individual car; a median describes the midpoint of a particular dataset. They answer different questions and should not be used interchangeably as a valuation for a specific vehicle.

The datasets have different scopes and methodologies, so their figures should be attributed to their respective publishers rather than blended. For its broader Land Rover dataset, British Classic Cars reports a 2025 nominal median of £19,057 across 1,227 sales, 7% below 2024. That is a marque-wide statistic, not evidence that every model or individual car fell by the same amount. Market aggregates and exceptional sales are not substitutes for checking comparable vehicles.
What affects the price of a particular Land Rover?
The sources do not establish a universal formula for valuing an individual vehicle. They identify factors that can make a sale an outlier, including rarity, provenance, originality, condition and specification. A meaningful comparison should also match the transaction type and clarify exactly what the quoted figure represents.

- Confirm the exact model, year, chassis or edition.
- Check the sale date, venue and currency; do not compare currencies without stating the conversion date and method.
- Distinguish a completed sale from an estimate or asking price, and determine whether the result is a hammer price or includes the buyer’s premium when the source says.
- Compare condition, provenance, originality and specification rather than relying on a model name alone.
- Keep public auctions, charity sales, private transactions and original retail prices in separate categories.
What the available results can—and cannot—establish
For the broad classic Land Rover category, British Classic Cars’ reported £400,000 Defender 90 result is the strongest supported record in the available figures. For the Range Rover Classic specifically, the same publisher reports £132,250 for Chassis #001; Marque separately lists a €120,750 1976 example in its verified-sales table. These figures do not support a reliable exhaustive top ten, and the differing currencies, datasets and scopes make a longer ordinal list misleading.
A bespoke Range Rover pair was announced by JLR and listed by RM Sotheby’s, but the available information does not establish a completed sale price. It is therefore not included among sold results.
