It sold for AED 55 million at a charity auction in Dubai on 8 April 2023. Guinness converts that to US$14,975,769; the auction organizer rounded it to $15 million.
What is the most expensive license plate in the world?
Guinness World Records lists Dubai registration P-7 as the most expensive car registration. Emirates Auction conducted the sale at its Most Noble Numbers charity auction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
How much did the P-7 plate sell for?
The winning bid was AED 55 million. The Guinness record page gives the equivalent as US$14,975,769, while Emirates Auction described it as $15 million in its announcement. The dollar figure is a conversion or rounded headline, not a separate sale price. Guinness World Records and Emirates Auction report the sale.
When and why was the plate sold?
The sale took place on 8 April 2023 as part of the Most Noble Numbers charity auction. Emirates Auction said the event raised $26.6 million in total for the 1 Billion Meals Endowment campaign. That amount refers to the auction’s stated fundraising overall, not to the P-7 bid alone, and the statement does not establish how much of the P-7 proceeds were ultimately disbursed or how many meals they funded. Guinness World Records’ event report also describes the auction as a charity fundraiser.

What record did P-7 break?
Emirates Auction says P-7 surpassed the previous record associated with Abu Dhabi registration 5-1, which the organizer says sold for $14 million in 2008. That comparison is the auction house’s account of the earlier sale. Emirates Auction’s retrospective recounts the comparison.
Why are Dubai number plates so expensive?
The documented facts establish the record-setting result, the auction setting and the charity purpose, but they do not establish the winning bidder’s identity, personal motivation, or the specific registration rights and transfer conditions attached to the bid. It would therefore be speculation to claim that the buyer paid for a particular status, investment potential, or legal privilege. The record is a price achieved for one specific registration at auction, not evidence of what other plates cost or what they are worth today.
