Why the 2026 Ducati Monster is the lead pick
Ducati announced the fifth-generation Monster on October 23, 2025, describing it as redesigned from scratch around the new V2 engine. The styling revisits cues from the original Monster, including a tank with shoulders framing the headlight and a short tail. That combination of a new engine platform and a claimed clean-sheet redesign gives the Monster the strongest case for being the standout new naked bike of 2026.
Ducati’s US product listing gives the Monster 111 hp, 67 lb-ft of torque, a wet weight of 386 lb without fuel, and a starting price of $13,295. The weight convention matters: this is not a fully fueled curb-weight figure. The price and specifications are Ducati’s published US listing figures, not independent measurements.

Ducati’s announcement put its own promotional spin on the change: “With the 2026 Model Year, based on the new V2 engine, Ducati is writing a new chapter in this unique and unrepeatable story.” The concrete case for the bike is the fifth-generation redesign and new V2; the language about a “new chapter” is the manufacturer’s characterization.

What makes the Honda CB1000F a serious alternative?
The Honda’s appeal is different: a 1000cc liquid-cooled inline-four in a roadster styled to evoke the CB750F and CB900F. Honda lists a six-speed manual transmission, a 31.3-inch seat height and a five-inch TFT display on its US product page. Its front suspension is a 41mm Showa SFF-BP inverted fork with 5.1 inches of travel; the rear uses a Pro-Link shock with 5.5 inches of travel.

Honda says the CB1000F has an upright, open riding position and tuning that emphasizes low- and midrange response compared with the engine architecture used in the 1000 Hornet. Those are Honda’s product descriptions, not independent comfort or handling findings. Its US price is $10,599 base MSRP, plus a $775 destination charge, for $11,374 total MSRP.
Which changes are genuinely new for 2026?
Ducati: a new generation
Ducati explicitly calls the 2026 Monster its fifth generation and says the redesign starts from scratch with the new V2 engine. That is the strongest evidence in this group for a major model change.

Suzuki: a named display update
Suzuki’s 2026 brochure calls out a new five-inch full-color TFT for the GSX-S1000. It also lists the bike’s 999cc inline-four, Ride-by-Wire, Suzuki Intelligent Ride System, selectable drive modes, traction control, bi-directional quick shift, adjustable KYB suspension and Brembo brakes. The brochure supports describing the display as new; it does not support calling the whole motorcycle a new generation.
KTM: distinguish model year from announcement year
KTM North America’s January 8, 2026 announcement is easy to misread as making every listed bike a 2026 model. It covers the 2026 250 Duke, 390 Duke and 1390 Super Duke R EVO, but labels the 990 Duke as a 2027 model. The release said the 250, 390 and 990 Duke would reach authorized dealers in early spring 2026, and that the 990 Duke R and 1390 Super Duke R EVO were already in dealers at the time of the announcement. Because that timing was published in January, check current local inventory rather than treating it as a live availability promise.

How to choose between these bikes
- Choose the Monster if the headline question is about the most significant new-bike story. Its stated fifth-generation status and from-scratch redesign around a new V2 give it the clearest case, alongside Ducati’s published performance figures.
- Consider the CB1000F if you want a retro roadster direction. It pairs a liquid-cooled inline-four with styling references to Honda’s late-1970s CB models and publishes a lower US base price than the Monster, before destination is included.
- Look at the GSX-S1000 if the 2026 update you care about is cockpit technology. Suzuki specifically identifies its new five-inch TFT, while retaining a listed package that includes rider modes, traction control and a bi-directional quick shifter.
- Check the exact KTM model year and trim. The 990 Duke is labeled 2027 in KTM North America’s release, and the feature list differs across the 390 Duke, 990 Duke R and 1390 Super Duke R EVO.
