The Las Vegas Grand Prix is both a rare chance to watch Formula 1 cars race along the Strip and a major temporary street event that reshapes nearby roads and transit. Its speed, setting and entertainment program make it a distinctive spectacle; the organizer-reported economic figures do not, on their own, prove a net benefit for every local business or resident.
What is the Las Vegas Grand Prix?
The 2026 race is scheduled for November 19–21. Formula 1 has announced a 10-year extension, keeping the event in Las Vegas through 2037, according to the LVCVA’s June 4, 2026 release.
The event uses a street circuit beside Strip landmarks. The official 2026 event page lists the circuit at 6.201 km (3.853 miles), making it the second-longest on the F1 calendar. The event combines racing with music, hospitality and other fan experiences; what is included depends on the ticket category.
The good: a setting and scale few races can match
Fast racing through a famous cityscape
The circuit’s long straights and heavy braking zones place the cars in an unmistakably Las Vegas setting. The event page records Alex Albon’s 229.2 mph top speed during the 2024 edition. That figure is an event-publisher statistic, not a promise of the speed reached in every race.

Evidence of on-track action
The official event page reports 181 overtakes in the 2023 race and 77 in 2024. Those year-specific counts suggest the event has produced plenty of passing, although they do not guarantee how entertaining a future race will be.
More than a grandstand seat
For visitors who want a destination event, the race can be part of a wider night out, with concerts and other fan activities alongside track viewing. The 2026 event page describes general admission, grandstand and selected hospitality options. Compare what each ticket actually includes and where it places you before deciding whether the wider program is worth the cost to you.

The bad: race-week access can be complicated
A street circuit requires roads to close, reopen in stages and accommodate race operations. The consequences extend beyond the track: visitors may need to plan their route to hotels or attractions, while residents and businesses can face detours and altered transit stops.
Clark County’s 2025 race-week notice documents the scale of those effects that year. Koval Lane was scheduled to close fully for 24 hours from November 15 through November 24, with additional circuit closures and reopening times. The notice also listed a closed Bellagio bus stop and detours on named RTC routes.

The LVCVA’s June 4, 2026 release reports $3.2 billion in cumulative economic impact in Southern Nevada since the race began in 2023. It also reports $43 million in state and local tax revenue from the 2025 race, including $15 million allocated to support local K–12 education, and more than $2 million in Foundation contributions to nonprofits since the event began. These are figures reported by the event parties and destination authority; the release does not independently establish the underlying methodology or show how gains and costs are distributed.

- BUILD & DISPLAY – After kids have enjoyed playing out racing stories with the Ferrari F1 toy, they can display it on a shelf or bedside table
Those totals are relevant, but they are not a complete accounting of the event’s effects. They do not establish whether every local business benefits, how much activity may be displaced, what all public costs are, or which residents capture the economic gains. The documented closures show a real access burden; the cited figures do not quantify its full effect. Neither the claim that the race benefits everyone nor the claim that it harms everyone is established by these sources.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali described the event as having “a strong and lasting impact on the local economy and community” in the LVCVA release. That is his assessment, not an independent finding.

Quick Recap
How to decide whether the race is for you
If you are attending
- Choose a ticket based on viewing position and included hospitality or entertainment, rather than assuming every package offers the same experience.
- Consider where you are staying and how you will reach your seating area or other plans during race operations.
- Check current official event and county updates close to travel, since the 2025 closure notice does not confirm the 2026 schedule.
If you live or work nearby
- Weigh the reported tax and nonprofit contributions against the duration and geography of road and transit disruption that affect your own commute or business.
- Treat the LVCVA’s impact totals as reported claims, not as a complete independent net-benefit calculation for the community.
