Its early version used a 1,157 cc BMW K1200S engine rated at 167 hp, but that figure does not describe every Quadster: later listings report a larger 1,293 cc engine and different power ratings. It looks and feels motorcycle-like in some respects, yet its four wheels, direct steering and wide, road-oriented tires give it a distinct character.
What is the GG Quadster?
Associated with Swiss maker Grüter + Gut, the Quadster combines motorcycle-derived powertrain and controls with four wheels and car-style tires. It is not simply a motorcycle with an extra wheel, nor does the word “quad” establish that it handles like a typical ATV. The vehicle’s layout puts a motorcycle-like riding position and controls over a four-wheel chassis with direct steering.

A 2009 New Atlas article presented it as a more powerful successor concept to the earlier GG Quad, replacing that vehicle’s BMW boxer-twin approach with a BMW K1200 inline-four. The exact production timeline and present-day availability are not established by the available authoritative current sources, so the Quadster should be treated as a distinctive model with historical and later specification records—not assumed to be in current production.
How much horsepower does a GG Quadster have?
It depends on the version and source. The often-quoted 167 hp figure belongs to an early Quadster described in a 2008 Los Angeles Times review, not every model year. Later technical listings give a larger engine and somewhat different output figures.

| Version or listing | Engine and output | Other reported figures |
|---|---|---|
| Early vehicle reviewed in 2008 by the Los Angeles Times | 1,157 cc BMW K1200S liquid-cooled inline-four; 167 hp at 10,250 rpm; 96 lb-ft of torque at 8,250 rpm | Six-speed transmission plus reverse; 825 lb dry weight. [Los Angeles Times, 2008] |
| Early-era reference identifying the figure as 2007 | 1,157 cc; 167 PS | 210 km/h reported top speed; €38,000 starting price stated for 2007. [Medienwerkstatt Wissen] |
| 2011–2012 model-year database entries | 1,293 cc; 173 PS / 126.3 kW; 140 Nm | 210 km/h reported top speed; 390 kg dry weight. [Motorrad & Reisen] |
| Manufacturer-branded specification page | 1,293 cc; 129 kW / 175 bhp at 9,250 rpm; 140 Nm at 8,250 rpm | 210 kph reported top speed; 390 kg empty weight; 26-litre fuel capacity. The page is manufacturer-branded but hosted on Wix, not an independent test or regulator record. [GG Motorrad specifications] |
The later sources do not match exactly: one gives 173 PS, while the manufacturer-branded page gives 175 bhp. Keep the units and attribution attached to each number rather than treating the figures as interchangeable or combining them into a single definitive specification.
How fast is the GG Quadster?
Later specification sources report a top speed of 210 km/h (about 130 mph): that figure appears in the 2011–2012 database entries and on the manufacturer-branded specification page. The early-era Medienwerkstatt Wissen reference also reports 210 km/h. These are published specification figures, not a speed independently established here for every version or riding condition.
What is it like to ride?
The Quadster’s motorcycle-style controls can make its four-wheel layout feel unfamiliar. In the Los Angeles Times review, Kevin Duke described it as feeling more like “riding a car that had motorcycle controls.” He also wrote that, in fast turns, a rider might drift rather than tip, attributing that impression to the low center of gravity and widely set, low-profile performance tires. Those comments describe one reviewer’s brief drive; they are not a safety assessment or a universal handling guarantee.
The distinction matters when comparing it with other vehicles. A conventional motorcycle leans on two wheels, while a four-wheel ATV typically has different steering and tire characteristics. The Quadster’s four wheels, direct steering and road-oriented tire dimensions place it in a less familiar category. Its early-version reverse gear is also a practical difference from many motorcycles, though the cited 2008 review is the source for that transmission detail.
What tires fit a GG Quadster?
The Motorrad & Reisen technical database lists 205/40-17 tires at the front and 245/35-18 at the rear for its 2011–2012 model-year entries. Those are reported sizes, not a guarantee of fitment for every year or individual vehicle. Search by the exact size and confirm the required tire ratings and vehicle fitment against the Quadster’s documentation or a qualified specialist before buying.
Is the GG Quadster street legal?
There is no single answer that applies everywhere. Road legality depends on the jurisdiction, the vehicle’s approval or registration status, and the documentation for the specific example. The available evidence does not establish a current official approval source or a universal street-legal classification. Check with the relevant local vehicle authority and verify the Quadster’s paperwork before using one on public roads.
What did a GG Quadster cost?
Published prices are historical, not current market valuations. The Los Angeles Times reported a US$65,500 base price and US$75,060 for the vehicle as tested in 2008. Medienwerkstatt Wissen gives a €38,000 starting price for 2007. The different dates, currencies and reporting contexts mean these figures should not be read as directly comparable or as a present-day asking price.
What to check before considering one
Because the Quadster is unusual and current availability is not established, a prospective buyer should verify the specific vehicle rather than rely on model-wide assumptions.

- Confirm the model year, engine displacement and specification documents; early and later power figures differ.
- Check road registration and approval paperwork with the authority in the location where it will be driven.
- Verify tire sizes, ratings and fitment on the individual vehicle before ordering replacements.
- Ask a specialist about service and replacement-parts availability for that particular example.
- Arrange an appropriate inspection and familiarization drive; the reviewer-reported handling impressions are not a substitute for evaluating the vehicle yourself.
