The first Lamborghini Aventador delivered to North America was donated by Automobili Lamborghini to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. The museum displays the car in its Vault, according to reports by Autoblog and the Beverly Press.
What happened to the first Aventador in America?
Lamborghini donated the early North American car to the Petersen, where it is now part of the museum’s Vault display. The reports identify it as the first Aventador delivered to North America; they do not provide a VIN or an independently verified build date.
Why do reports call it both a 2011 and a 2012 Aventador?
The Beverly Press describes the car as a 2011 Aventador Coupé, Model Year 2012. Autoblog calls it a 2012 Aventador and reports that the model debuted in 2011. These descriptions can be reconciled as a 2011 car identified with Model Year 2012, but the available reports do not establish its exact production date.
How the car was used before the donation
Before the Aventador reached the museum, it was used for private previews in New York City, Miami and Los Angeles. After the model’s launch, it took part in track events and Lamborghini technician service training, the reports say.

What made the Aventador significant?
Autoblog reports that the Aventador debuted in 2011 as the Murciélago’s flagship successor, featuring a carbon-fiber monocoque and a 700-horsepower V12. Autoblog also gives the occupant cell’s weight as 325.18 pounds and describes the transmission’s shift time as 50 milliseconds. These specifications are reported by Autoblog, not independently verified here against Lamborghini technical documentation.
The museum and Lamborghini framed the donation as a way to preserve and share the car’s place in the brand’s V12 history. Autoblog quoted Petersen executive director Terry L. Karges saying the museum was grateful for Lamborghini’s support in expanding its collection of significant vehicles from the past 25 years. It also quoted Automobili Lamborghini Americas CEO Andrea Baldi describing the V12 as central to the brand’s identity and saying the donated Aventador had found a home where enthusiasts could admire it.
