The Porsche 918 Spyder is the fastest Porsche in this sourced comparison by manufacturer-published top speed: 345 km/h (214 mph). The 991-generation 911 GT2 RS follows at 340 km/h (211 mph). These are Porsche figures, not results from an independent head-to-head test, and the ranking is about top speed—not acceleration or lap times.
Fastest Porsches by published top speed
The ranking below compares notable historic Porsche models and includes a current electric performance model for context. The figures come from Porsche sources and are not an exhaustive audit of every Porsche ever made.
| Rank | Model | Porsche-published speed | Context |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 918 Spyder | 345 km/h (214 mph) | 2015 model year; Porsche Museum specifications. |
| 2 | 911 GT2 RS (991 generation) | 340 km/h (211 mph) | 2017 launch figures; Porsche also reported 211 mph as its top track speed in 2018 press material. |
| 3 | Carrera GT | 330 km/h (205 mph) | Porsche historical model overview. |
| 4 | 959 | 315–317 km/h (196–197 mph) | Porsche’s historical overview gives 315 km/h; a later overview gives 317 km/h. |
| 5 | 911 GT1 road car | 310 km/h (193 mph) | Porsche’s historical overview describes a small road-going series. |
| Current electric comparison | Taycan Turbo GT / Weissach | 190 mph top track speed | MY2026 US technical data; this is a top-track-speed specification, not the same claim context as every historic maximum-speed figure. |
Porsche’s 918 Spyder specifications give the car a 345 km/h top speed. Its historical super sportscar overview lists the Carrera GT, 959 and road-going 911 GT1 alongside other landmark models. For the GT2 RS, Porsche’s 2017 launch and Nürburgring report and 2018 press release provide the cited speed figures.
Why the 959 has a range
Porsche sources do not give one consistent figure for the 959: the historical super sportscar page states 315 km/h, while a later Porsche overview is not available as a distinct cited link in the source list for that later figure. The documented discrepancy is 315 versus 317 km/h; retaining the range is more accurate than silently choosing one number.

How to read the Taycan comparison
Porsche’s MY2026 Taycan technical data lists 190 mph as top track speed for the Turbo GT / Weissach. That figure is useful context for a current electric Porsche, but its stated test context differs from the historic maximum-speed claims above, so it does not change this ranking.
Top speed is not the only meaning of “fastest”
A car can rank differently depending on whether the question is about maximum speed, acceleration from a standstill, or a circuit lap. Keep the metric, units and conditions attached to each figure rather than combining them into one ranking.

Acceleration
Porsche lists the 918 Spyder at 0–100 km/h in 2.6 seconds. For the MY2026 Taycan Turbo GT, Porsche lists 0–60 mph in 2.1 seconds with Launch Control. These figures use different distance units and stated conditions; they are not a directly comparable acceleration ranking as presented.
Porsche’s “Superlative speed” article names the 918 Spyder the winner of its Top 5 based on 0–100 km/h acceleration. That is a ranking by acceleration, not an all-time top-speed table.

Nürburgring lap times
Porsche reported a 6:47.3 Nürburgring Nordschleife lap for the 911 GT2 RS over a 20.6-km circuit. It also reported a 6:57 lap for the 918 Spyder. A lap time measures performance around a particular circuit; it does not establish maximum speed. The GT2 RS result is reported in Porsche’s record report.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the ranking does—and does not—establish
- For highest published top speed: the 918 Spyder leads this comparison at 345 km/h (214 mph).
- For a 911: the 991-generation 911 GT2 RS is listed at 340 km/h (211 mph). Porsche’s 2018 release called it “The fastest and most powerful street legal 911 of all time”; that wording concerns the 911 line, not Porsche models overall.
- For an independent all-make comparison: the cited figures do not provide one. They are manufacturer specifications, plus a manufacturer-reported circuit record, rather than an independent comparative test.
Always check which model year or generation a figure describes and whether it is a maximum-speed specification, top-track-speed figure, acceleration result or timed lap. Porsche’s MY2026 Taycan data, for example, should not be treated as though it used the same claim context as every historical model page.
