There is no single verified “fastest Honda” in the figures available here: a circuit lap time does not establish a car’s top speed or acceleration. Honda’s best-documented recent circuit results in this evidence are for the front-wheel-drive Civic Type R. The NSX and S2000 belong in the conversation too, but their cited specifications describe different kinds of performance—not comparable lap or straight-line results.
What does “fastest” mean?
“Fastest” can mean quickest around a particular circuit, quickest from a standing start, or highest maximum speed. Those are different measures. Honda’s reported Civic Type R times below are lap results for specific tracks; they cannot be used to rank the NSX or S2000 by top speed or acceleration.
The available official figures do not form an all-generation, apples-to-apples ranking of Honda sports cars. They cover particular models, circuits, and testing contexts. This comparison focuses on documented Honda-badged cars and results, includes the Civic Type R hot hatch, and does not treat modified cars or tuner records as factory production-car results.
Honda’s documented Civic Type R track times
The Civic Type R has the clearest recent circuit evidence in the cited Honda releases. Honda identifies these Nürburgring results as front-wheel-drive records, but the times come from different years and test contexts.

| Model and year | Track result | Honda’s stated context |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 Civic Type R | 7 minutes 44.881 seconds at the Nürburgring Nordschleife | Honda reported a front-wheel-drive lap record during performance-evaluation testing. Honda, 2023. |
| 2017 Civic Type R | 7 minutes 43.8 seconds at the Nürburgring Nordschleife | Set by a development car with technical specifications Honda said represented the final production car. Honda reported a dry track and favorable ambient temperature for tire and powertrain performance. Honda, 2017. |
| 2022 Civic Type R | 2 minutes 23.120 seconds at Suzuka | Set by the all-new Civic Type R’s final development car during final performance evaluation in April 2022. Honda, 2022. |
| 2020 Civic Type R Limited Edition | 2 minutes 23.993 seconds at Suzuka | Honda Japan’s history page labels its front-wheel-drive comparison as Honda research as of July 2020. This is a separate model-year result. Honda Japan, 2020. |
Do not compare a Nürburgring time directly with a Suzuka time: the circuits have different layouts and distances. Even times at the same circuit need their model year and test context attached. In particular, the 2017 Nürburgring figure came from a development car, while Honda describes the 2023 result as a performance-evaluation test.
Where the NSX and S2000 fit
Honda NSX: mid-engine sports-car lineage
Honda introduced the first-generation NSX as a mid-engine sports car in 1990. Honda’s NSX history places it in a different layout and role from the front-wheel-drive Civic Type R.

The second-generation NSX Type S was the final limited model in that lineage. Honda announced 350 units worldwide and said production of the second-generation NSX would conclude in December 2022. Honda, 2021. A later Honda technology retrospective gives the Type S hybrid system’s maximum output as 449 kW and maximum torque as 667 Nm. Those are system specifications, not a lap time, acceleration time, or top-speed result. Honda, 2023.
Honda S2000: high-revving roadster
Honda’s retrospective of the 1999 debut specification describes the S2000’s 2.0-liter naturally aspirated DOHC VTEC four-cylinder as rated at 250 PS at 8,300 rpm, with a 9,000-rpm maximum engine speed. Production ended in 2009. Honda, 2023.

Honda’s production announcement describes the S2000 as an FR roadster—front-engine, rear-wheel drive. Honda, 2009. Its engine rating and layout help explain its character, but neither establishes that it is faster than a Civic Type R or NSX by lap time, acceleration, or maximum speed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. So which Honda is fastest?
If “fastest” means a recently documented circuit performance among the models covered here, the Civic Type R is the strongest-supported answer: Honda published specific Nürburgring and Suzuka times, including a 2023 Nürburgring front-wheel-drive record claim. If the question means highest top speed or quickest acceleration across every Honda sports car ever made, the cited evidence does not establish a winner.

That distinction matters because these cars represent different performance approaches: a front-wheel-drive performance hatch, a mid-engine sports-car lineage that ended with a hybrid Type S, and a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive roadster with a high-revving naturally aspirated engine. No single ranking can fairly collapse those differences without comparable measurements.
