The Fastest-Accelerating Cars: What Published 0–60 mph Times Show

Published 0–60 mph times put the Corvette ZR1X, Rimac Nevera R, Battista and others among the quickest, but claims and independent tests are not directly comparable.

The quickest published 0–60 mph figures in this group range from 1.74 to 1.99 seconds—but they are not a fair, definitive global ranking. The numbers mix automaker claims with independent tests, different trims and test methods. The fastest independently reported result here is Car and Driver’s 1.8-second run for the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X; the lowest figure, 1.74 seconds, is a claimed time for the Rimac Nevera R, not a test result.

Quick comparison: published 0–60 mph figures

This is a ranking of the selected published figures, not an apples-to-apples leaderboard. A claimed figure and an instrumented test result should not be treated as equivalent, and small differences can reflect measurement method as much as a car’s performance.

Order by published figure Car and version 0–60 mph What the figure represents
1 Rimac Nevera R 1.74 seconds Claimed figure reported by Car and Driver’s 2026 reference; not identified there as an instrumented test.
2 Automobili Pininfarina Battista 1.79 seconds Manufacturer-announced figure, described by Automobili Pininfarina as a production-car record at its UAE debut. Automobili Pininfarina announcement.
3 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X 1.8 seconds Car and Driver’s independent retest result; the outlet says its time omits one-foot rollout. Car and Driver, June 2026.
4 Rimac Nevera 1.85 seconds Claimed figure reported by Car and Driver’s 2026 reference; not identified there as an instrumented test. Car and Driver.
5 Lucid Air Sapphire 1.89 seconds Lucid’s manufacturer-published figure; its 2024 technical specification lists 1,234 hp and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Lucid technical specification.
6 (tie) Lucid Air Sapphire 1.9 seconds Car and Driver instrumented comparison result, July 2025; test car had Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires. Car and Driver comparison.
6 (tie) Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach 1.9 seconds Car and Driver instrumented comparison result, July 2025; test car had Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires. Car and Driver comparison.
8 Tesla Model S Plaid 1.99 seconds Tesla’s listed 0–60 mph claim. Tesla’s current Model S page says the car is no longer in production. Tesla Model S.

The evidence available supports eight distinct entries or figures, not ten comparable cars. Adding two more by borrowing 0–100 km/h numbers or applying a test result to a different variant would create a misleading list, so this comparison stops where the sourced 0–60 mph figures stop.

How to read the times

Claims and tests answer different questions

An automaker’s figure describes a performance claim made under its chosen conditions. An independent outlet’s timed run tells you what that publication measured in a particular test. Lucid’s 1.89-second claim and Car and Driver’s 1.9-second result for the Air Sapphire are close, but they are different kinds of evidence; the first should not be recast as a test result or the second as a manufacturer specification.

The same distinction matters for the Rimac and Battista. Car and Driver reports 1.74 seconds for the Nevera R and 1.85 seconds for the Nevera as claimed figures. Automobili Pininfarina’s 1.79-second Battista figure is the automaker’s own announcement, not a directly comparable independent test.

Rollout and test setup can change the number

Car and Driver’s 2026 ZR1X result excludes one-foot rollout, which the outlet says accounts for 0.2 second. It also describes averaging its quickest runs in each direction. A time that includes rollout will generally appear shorter than one that starts measuring immediately, so the ZR1X’s 1.8 seconds must stay attached to that test method.

Tires and conditions matter too. In Car and Driver’s July 2025 comparison, both the Lucid and Porsche wore Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires. Lucid’s technical specification, by contrast, identifies Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires for the Air Sapphire. Those details make the comparison more informative, but they do not make the two publications’ numbers interchangeable.

Keep 0–60 mph separate from 0–100 km/h

These figures are for 0–60 miles per hour. A 0–100 km/h time covers a slightly longer distance: 100 km/h is about 62 mph. It is not an equivalent result, and substituting one for the other can reorder a close comparison.

What these numbers say about the cars

The Corvette ZR1X has the quickest independently reported result here

Car and Driver’s 1.8-second result makes the 2026 Corvette ZR1X the quickest car in this selection by an independently reported 0–60 mph time. Because the run omits one-foot rollout, it should be compared with other results only when their start measurement and test procedures are known.

The Sapphire and Taycan show why a launch is not the whole story

Car and Driver recorded 1.9 seconds for both the Lucid Air Sapphire and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach in its July 2025 comparison. The outlet reported that the Lucid had an advantage at higher speeds. That is useful context: a launch time captures only one slice of acceleration, not how a car performs through a quarter-mile or at highway speeds.

Availability and model status affect a “fastest” list

Tesla’s Model S page lists a 1.99-second Plaid 0–60 mph claim and states that Model S is no longer in production. The figure is relevant to the model’s performance record, but it should not imply that a new Model S can currently be ordered from Tesla.

For scale beyond acceleration, Lucid’s 2023 final production announcement gave the Air Sapphire a 1,234-hp output and an EPA-estimated range of 427 miles. The range figure is an EPA estimate from that announcement, not a 0–60 test result. Lucid’s 2023 announcement.
