The BYD SHARK is a plug-in hybrid pickup, not a battery-electric truck: a turbocharged petrol engine works with electric motors and a Blade Battery. It made its global debut and launched in Mexico on May 14, 2024, with an official Mexico launch price of MXN 969,800. That price is historical, and specifications differ by market and model year.
When did the BYD SHARK debut?
BYD launched the SHARK in Mexico on May 14, 2024, describing it as the company’s first pickup and its first global product launch outside China. The documented event was a global debut and Mexico launch; the available company release does not establish that it was an online-only debut. BYD’s launch announcement also identifies the vehicle’s DMO Super Hybrid Off-road platform.
Is the BYD SHARK electric or hybrid?
It is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The petrol engine and electric motors work together, and the battery can be charged from an external power source. The SHARK can therefore drive on electric power, but it is not a battery-electric pickup with no petrol engine.
How much does the BYD SHARK cost?
BYD’s Mexico launch-period price was MXN 969,800, as reported in its Mexico-market price announcement. This is a historical price for that market, not a current international price or a confirmed quote for another country; the source does not establish whether taxes, dealer fees, or incentives are included. Ask an authorized local BYD distributor for a current, itemized price.

Prices and line-ups are localized. For example, BYD Australia presents a separate SHARK 6 range and Australian configurator. A Mexico launch figure should not be converted or treated as a local retail price elsewhere.
What are the BYD SHARK’s range and performance?
There is no single specification that applies to every market. The launch figures below are manufacturer-reported values for named markets and test cycles; NEDC, WLTP and Brazil’s INMETRO-referenced figures are not directly comparable.

The Mexico figures are from BYD’s 2024 launch announcement; the Brazil values are from BYD Brasil’s launch release; and the UK values are from BYD’s 2026 UK/Europe specification release. BYD labels the latter as UK specification and says EU equipment details were still to be confirmed. Treat all figures as version- and market-specific manufacturer or cited-label values, not as a single global rating.
How much can the BYD SHARK tow, and what can it carry?
For the 2026 UK specification, BYD lists 2,500 kg braked towing capacity, 750 kg unbraked towing capacity, 790 kg payload and a 1,200-litre load bay. It also lists all-wheel drive, double-wishbone suspension front and rear, and a 60-litre fuel tank. These figures describe that UK specification; they should not be assumed for every SHARK variant.

BYD Australia’s current SHARK 6 pages show how the numbers can change within later market line-ups: the Dynamic Cab Chassis page lists 321 kW, 650 Nm and 2,500 kg towing, while the separate Performance model is advertised at 350 kW and up to 3,500 kg towing. Those Australian figures do not retroactively describe the 2024 Mexico launch vehicle. Check the exact variant and local towing rules before comparing or towing. What features does the BYD SHARK have?
UK specification
BYD’s 2026 UK list includes a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, 10.25-inch driver display, head-up display, navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera and seven airbags. It also specifies vehicle-to-load (V2L) power up to 6 kW through two sockets. These are UK-listed features, not a guarantee of equipment in other countries or trims. BYD’s UK/Europe release identifies the list as UK specification.

Other market equipment
BYD’s Chile launch release lists six airbags, a 540-degree panoramic camera and six-way electric driver-seat adjustment, along with 790 kg payload and 2,500 kg towing. Saudi distributor materials also mention a 540-degree camera and V2L. The variation is a reason to check the local trim sheet rather than combine feature lists from different markets into one universal specification. Availability depends on market and date. BYD’s 2026 UK/Europe announcement said the SHARK would go on sale first in the UK and that selected European markets were planned for the second half of 2026. That is a launch plan, not confirmation of current stock or a delivery date. Check with a local authorized distributor for order status, inventory, warranty and service coverage. BYD’s UK/Europe release sets out that plan; its Australian configurator reflects a separate local line-up.
