Online replacement-tire buying is a substantial U.S. sales channel, but the purchase is not complete when you find a low listed price: you still need to confirm the product fits your vehicle and arrange delivery or pickup and installation. The market’s growth reflects both wider automotive e-commerce and practical improvements such as vehicle-compatibility information.
Why are wheels and tires being bought online?
Several forces are converging: consumers have become more comfortable ordering automotive parts online, digital storefronts make it easier to search products, and vehicle-compatibility tools can help shoppers narrow choices. The evidence is strongest for replacement tires; the available public figures do not isolate online wheel sales.
Replacement tires have a meaningful online channel
Circana reported that U.S. e-commerce replacement-tire sales grew 45% over the three years preceding April 25, 2023. In the 12 months ending February 2023, e-commerce represented 14% of U.S. replacement-tire sales, compared with 9% in 2019. These are historical measures, not a current 2026 market share or growth rate. Circana also reported an 11% decline in physical-store unit sales over the three years preceding its April 2023 release. Circana’s April 2023 report attributes the shift in part to e-commerce convenience.
The broader automotive aftermarket is moving online too
The Auto Care Association and MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers forecast U.S. automotive aftermarket e-commerce sales of about $23 billion for 2025 excluding third-party marketplaces, and $44.6 billion including marketplaces. They forecast a 5.4% compound annual growth rate from 2022 to 2030 excluding marketplaces; their release also gives 6.7% annualized growth for the total channel, including Amazon, eBay Motors, and Walmart, over 2020–2030. These are forecasts for the broad aftermarket, not measured results or tire-specific estimates. The 2025 joint forecast release describes compatibility information for vehicle year, make, model, and trim as one way automotive retailers have enhanced online shopping.

Market size figures include more than tires
SEMA’s 2025 Market Report puts combined 2024 U.S. sales for wheel, tire, suspension, and brake aftermarket products at $12.51 billion. That total is for four product classes together; SEMA’s public summary does not give a wheel-only or tire-only figure. It says the report analyzes sales channels and online orders split between home shipment and in-store pickup, but the public summary does not state the channel percentages. SEMA’s 2025 report announcement therefore supports the category’s scale, not a precise online share for wheels or tires.
Can you buy replacement tires online?
Yes. Circana’s U.S. sales figures establish that consumers do buy replacement tires through e-commerce. An online order may be shipped to a home or made available for pickup, but the exact options depend on the retailer. SEMA tracks both home shipment and in-store pickup in its market report, without publishing the shares in its public summary. Check a seller’s current fulfillment terms before ordering.

How do you make sure tires or wheels fit your car?
Start with the vehicle and required specifications
Use your vehicle’s year, make, model, and trim to narrow the choices, then confirm the tire size and other required specifications against the vehicle information and the seller’s listing. Compatibility tools can help filter options, but the Auto Care Association’s description of those tools is broad aftermarket evidence; it does not establish that every seller’s fitment result is error-free or guaranteed.
For wheels, do not rely on appearance or a general vehicle match alone. Verify the required wheel fit specifications with a reliable seller or installer before purchase. The sources cited here do not provide a standardized fitment checklist or validate any particular retailer’s fitment guarantee.
