He has said he collected some Fast & Furious cars, and specifically described a red Chevelle given to his daughter. Dominic Toretto’s Charger and other cars, by contrast, are film vehicles; their appearance on screen does not establish that Diesel owns them.
What Vin Diesel has said about his own cars
In a 2015 Top Gear interview, Diesel said he had acquired an unspecified number of Fast & Furious cars for his personal collection. He did not give a complete list, so that remark supports the existence of a collection at the time, not a present-day inventory or ownership of any particular screen car beyond the Chevelle he discussed.
Diesel said the red Chevelle from the 2009 film was his daughter’s first-birthday present and her first car. In a separate 2017 interview, Aftonbladet reported that he thought he had three cars in his garages at that time; he also recalled that the film company sent his daughter a red Chevelle after the premiere of Fast 4. These are dated, approximate accounts. They do not confirm that the car remains in his garage today or establish what the other cars were.
Diesel also told Top Gear his first car was a 1978 Monte Carlo he bought in New York City for $175. That is a story about his first car, not evidence that it is part of his current collection.

Dom’s cars in the films
Dominic Toretto’s cars belong to the character’s on-screen history unless there is separate evidence of personal ownership. Film productions may use multiple vehicles to represent one car, including stunt versions and replicas.
| Car | Film connection | What is established | What it says about Diesel’s ownership |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1970 Dodge Charger | A defining car associated with Dom across the franchise | Edmunds notes that numerous cars portrayed the Charger in the films. | The screen role does not establish that Diesel owns any of those vehicles. |
| 1993 Mazda RX-7 | Dom’s first car seen in The Fast and the Furious | The Petersen Automotive Museum documents the car as originally gray, then painted red for production and fitted with custom vinyl graphics. | The museum documents it as a production vehicle, not as Diesel’s personal car. |
| Red Chevrolet Chevelle | Featured in the franchise, including the 2009 film | Diesel described a red Chevelle as a gift for his daughter; the 2017 interview also recounts the film company sending it after the premiere of Fast 4. | This is the clearest specifically identified franchise car connected to Diesel’s family, but the accounts do not establish current ownership. |
The Charger: a character car, not a confirmed personal car
The 1970 Charger is central to Dom’s screen identity. In the original film, Dom says, “Me and my dad built her.” That is dialogue from a fictional character, not a statement by Diesel about his own car. Edmunds’ account of multiple Chargers used across the films further cautions against treating a familiar screen car as one identifiable vehicle owned by the actor.

The RX-7 and the Toretto garage
The Petersen Automotive Museum identifies the red 1993 Mazda RX-7 as the first vehicle Dom is seen driving in the first film. Its gray-to-red paint change and custom graphics were production choices. The museum also notes that the Toretto home garage was added for the production, so the familiar garage is part of the film’s constructed setting rather than evidence of Diesel’s actual home or collection.

Some secondary coverage, including Garage Italia’s article, attributes several cars to Diesel’s personal garage, including Dodge Chargers, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS and a Corvette. That list is not a first-party ownership record for each vehicle, and it shifts between the actor’s collection and cars associated with Dom. Treat those models as reported claims, not a verified inventory.

There is also a practical reason screen-car lists can be misleading: production can modify, duplicate or replace vehicles to meet filming needs. A 2023 Universal City Studios and DeAgostini collectible publication reports that about 200 vehicles are modified for each Fast & Furious movie. That is a publisher-reported production figure, not an independently audited count, but it illustrates why a car seen in a film cannot automatically be equated with one actor-owned vehicle.
