No—not on the best available U.S. data. The Cybertruck briefly ranked near the top of the American EV market, but it did not outsell rival electric pickups combined. Cox Automotive/Kelley Blue Book estimated 20,237 Cybertruck sales in 2025, compared with 58,507 for four named competing electric-truck lines.
The short answer
No—not according to the best available U.S. comparison. The Cybertruck had a strong early run and briefly ranked near the top of America’s electric-vehicle market, but it did not outsell rival electric pickups combined.
The latest complete model-level comparison in the supplied research is Cox Automotive/Kelley Blue Book’s estimate for full-year 2025. It puts Cybertruck sales at 20,237 units in the United States. Four named competing electric-truck lines—Ford’s F-150 Lightning, the GMC Hummer Truck/SUV, the GMC Sierra EV and Rivian’s R1T—totaled 58,507 estimated sales, or nearly three times the Cybertruck’s figure.
What the 2025 numbers show
These are Kelley Blue Book estimates of U.S. EV sales compiled by Cox Automotive, not a Cybertruck delivery figure published by Tesla. They nevertheless provide the clearest apples-to-apples model comparison available in the research.

Even if the GMC Hummer Truck/SUV line is removed because the published category includes an SUV, the other three named electric pickups total 42,719 units. That is still more than twice the Cybertruck’s estimated 2025 volume and 22,482 units higher.
The comparison is therefore not dependent on whether every Hummer variant belongs in an “EV truck” definition. The phrase “almost all other EV trucks combined” fails under either a broad or a narrower interpretation.
Why the claim may have sounded plausible
The Cybertruck did generate unusually strong sales headlines in 2024. That early performance appears to be the source of the broader narrative, but the original figures were narrower than the claim suggests.
Q3 2024: a strong launch-period showing
Cox Automotive estimated that Tesla sold more than 16,000 Cybertrucks in the third quarter of 2024. It described the model as the third-best-selling EV overall for that quarter, behind Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3.

That was a notable result for a recently launched vehicle. However, “third-best-selling EV overall” is not the same as “sold more than almost every other electric pickup combined.” The comparison included all available EV models, not just trucks, and the Cybertruck was still behind two Tesla passenger-vehicle lines.

Full-year 2024: fifth among all U.S. EV models
Cox’s full-year 2024 summary placed the Cybertruck fifth among U.S. EV models, just ahead of the Ford F-150 Lightning. Again, this was a ranking against individual EV models—not proof that Cybertruck sales exceeded the combined volume of competing electric pickups.
Experian’s registration data tell a similar story. For full-year 2024, the Cybertruck ranked fifth among all new retail individual EV registrations and held a 3.18% share of that broader market. It was visible and commercially significant, but it was not established as the dominant electric-truck seller under the stronger combined-sales test.
Q3 2024 registration data favored Ford
Experian’s separate Q3 2024 EV-pickup registration measurement gave the Ford F-150 Lightning 42.2% of the segment and the Cybertruck 37.9%. The named remainder consisted of the Rivian R1T, GMC Hummer EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV.

They are useful for a different reason: an independent registration-based measurement also did not show the Cybertruck overwhelming the entire electric-pickup field.
Full-year 2025: the gap widened
Cox estimated 20,237 Cybertruck sales for 2025 and marked the model down 48.1% from the prior-year comparison in its table. Its fourth-quarter estimate was only 4,140 units, down 68.1% year over year.

Meanwhile, the F-150 Lightning alone reached an estimated 27,307 U.S. sales—more than the Cybertruck. Adding the Sierra EV, R1T and Hummer line makes the combined difference much larger.
The wording problem: “sold” can mean different things
There are three separate measurement issues behind this claim.
- Cox’s numbers are estimates. Kelley Blue Book and Cox Automotive estimate U.S. EV sales by model. They are not Tesla-reported Cybertruck deliveries.
- Tesla reports vehicles in broad categories. Tesla’s public delivery releases generally do not consistently separate Cybertruck volume from every other vehicle in the way a model-by-model sales table would.
- Experian measures registrations. A registration indicates that a vehicle was registered, while a sales estimate or manufacturer delivery figure follows a different reporting process and timing. Registration share should not be presented as if it were the same thing as retail sales.
For that reason, the careful wording is “Cox estimated 20,237 U.S. Cybertruck sales in 2025,” not “Tesla reported selling 20,237 Cybertrucks.” The distinction does not rescue the original headline, but it prevents the correction from making a different methodological mistake.
What counts as an “EV truck”?
The category needs to be defined before making a combined-sales claim. A reasonable narrow comparison would include electric pickup trucks such as the Cybertruck, F-150 Lightning, Sierra EV and Rivian R1T. A broader comparison could also include the GMC Hummer EV Truck, although the Cox table identifies the line as “Hummer Truck/SUV,” which is not a perfectly clean pickup-only category.
Commercial electric vans, electric SUVs, three-wheel vehicles and other utility vehicles should not be silently mixed into a pickup comparison. Conversely, omitting available electric-pickup lines can make one model appear stronger than it is.

In this case, the definition issue is not decisive. The three clearly identifiable rival pickups in the 2025 comparison already total 42,719 estimated sales. Including the Hummer line raises the named competitor total to 58,507, before any additional electric truck models are considered.
What the data actually support
A fair summary would be:
The Cybertruck was one of America’s strongest-selling EV models during part of 2024, briefly ranking near the top of the overall EV market. But the latest complete U.S. estimates show that several rival electric-pickup lines together sold far more than the Cybertruck in 2025.
That statement preserves the interesting part of the story—the Cybertruck’s early sales momentum—without turning a broad EV ranking into a combined electric-pickup victory.

The timeline matters. A newly launched, highly publicized vehicle can make a large impression in a single quarter, especially when early reservations and pent-up demand are released into deliveries. A quarterly ranking can therefore look dramatic without establishing long-term segment leadership.

The first two snapshots explain why the claim gained traction. The third is why it should not be repeated as a current U.S. sales fact.
Source and scope notes
- Geography: The sales and registration comparisons discussed here are for the United States. They should not be generalized to global Cybertruck sales.
- Time period: The strongest complete model-level comparison is full-year 2025, with supporting quarterly and full-year 2024 data.
- Sales source: Cox Automotive/Kelley Blue Book estimates U.S. EV sales by model.
- Registration source: Experian registration data use a different methodology and period from Cox’s estimates.
- Model scope: “EV trucks” is not a universal statistical category. The Hummer figure is particularly worth labeling because the table combines Truck/SUV.
Verdict
The headline is misleading and appears to combine a genuine 2024 success story with a claim the data never established. The Cybertruck briefly ranked among America’s best-selling EV models, but it did not sell more than almost all other electric trucks combined. In 2025, the named rival lines in the Cox comparison sold nearly three times as many vehicles—and even the narrower three-pickup comparison exceeded Cybertruck sales by more than two to one.

Did the Cybertruck outsell other electric trucks combined?
No. Cox Automotive/Kelley Blue Book estimated 20,237 U.S. Cybertruck sales in 2025. Four named competing electric-truck lines totaled 58,507 estimated sales, and three clearly identifiable rival pickups totaled 42,719 even without the GMC Hummer Truck/SUV line.
Why did people think the Cybertruck was dominating EV sales?
