Jaguar’s 2024 rebrand was presented as more than a new logo: the company framed it as a complete reset around originality, artistic expression and a new brand world. The launch video—with no car in sight—made that message a point of contention. Reported reactions were sharply varied, but the available coverage does not establish how the broader public felt or whether the rebrand succeeded commercially.
Why did Jaguar rebrand?
Jaguar described the change as a return to an originality ethos associated with its founder, Sir William Lyons. In its November 18, 2024 announcement, the company said the new brand world was built around “Exuberant Modernism” and the idea that “A Jaguar should be a copy of nothing.” Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern called the approach “imaginative, bold and artistic at every touchpoint.” These are Jaguar’s statements of intent, not independent evidence of how customers received the strategy. Jaguar’s announcement described the debut as the beginning of a new era, with the identity rolling out from November 19, 2024.
Managing Director Rawdon Glover called the move “a complete reset,” saying Jaguar aimed to reclaim originality and inspire a new generation. The positioning therefore reached beyond visual identity: it was an attempt to redefine what the brand should signal, rather than simply refresh a badge.
What changed in Jaguar’s identity?
Jaguar’s announced system included several coordinated elements, which the company described as “symbols of change.” Its current Copy Nothing page continues to explain key parts of the identity in Jaguar’s own terms.

The elements were designed to work as a brand world rather than as a standalone logo revision. Whether that system communicates Jaguar’s intended meaning to a first-time viewer is a separate question from what the company says the elements represent.
Why did the launch provoke criticism?
The first promotional video showed models in brightly colored clothing and did not show a car. That choice made the campaign visually unlike a conventional automotive launch, but also left some viewers asking how the imagery connected to Jaguar vehicles. The Associated Press reported criticism focused on the absent car, perceived lack of clarity and new logo. AP’s report quoted Villanova School of Business marketing professor Charles Taylor, who argued the video struck the wrong tone for potential buyers and that Jaguar should build on its heritage as an elegant British high-performance sports-car brand. That is Taylor’s assessment, not a measured consensus.

A later AP report described reactions ranging from bewilderment to hostility and included a brand designer’s account of feeling “weird and unsettled.” It also situated the debate within a broader discussion of heritage brands and identity. Such reported responses illustrate the controversy, but they are individual reactions and journalistic characterization—not a representative survey. AP’s coverage also raised the question of what Jaguar is when it is not presented as a sleek movie-star car.
What does the reported design research show—and not show?
A 2026 Creative Bloq report says Glover described interviewing 2,500 people globally during vehicle development and asking them to rate the design out of 10. The report says ratings included many 1s and 2s, but also more 9s and 10s than for any previous Jaguar.

This is a secondary report about design-development research. It does not establish that the participants represented the public, and it concerns vehicle design ratings—not a representative response to the launch advertisement. It therefore cannot settle how popular the rebrand is overall or demonstrate a sales effect.
Where does Jaguar’s new identity stand now?
Jaguar’s current official page presents Type 01 as the vehicle entering production and identifies Type 00 as a non-production vehicle. The page also says final customer models and features are not yet available for sale and may vary before launch. That status matters: Type 00 should not be described as a production car, and the available official information does not establish final Type 01 customer specifications. Jaguar’s current Copy Nothing page is the source for those status statements.

How to judge the rebrand
The available evidence supports a clear reading of Jaguar’s stated ambition and the controversy surrounding its launch, but not a verdict on business success. A useful way to assess the strategy as its vehicles arrive is to ask:
- Can a new viewer understand the creative idea without an explanation?
- Does the campaign connect the brand promise clearly enough to the cars?
- Does the reinterpretation of Jaguar’s heritage feel distinctive while remaining recognizable?
- Are the intended customer and product positioning clear?
Those are evaluation questions, not proven performance measures. The coverage cited here documents criticism and reported development feedback, but provides neither a representative public-approval measure nor an independent measure of commercial results.
