Its long bonnet, geometric surfaces and dramatic proportions make the Cybertruck comparison a vivid visual analogy—but no reviewed source establishes a design link, shared engineering or direct influence. Jaguar’s production direction is a separate electric four-door GT, for which the company has issued evolving, dated projections.
What is the Jaguar Type 00?
Jaguar unveiled Type 00 at Miami Art Week on 2 December 2024 as a design vision, not a car for sale. The company described it as the first physical expression of its “Exuberant Modernism” design philosophy and as a preview of a future family of Jaguars. Jaguar says “Type” connects to its heritage, while the two zeroes refer to zero tailpipe emissions and the concept’s place as “car zero” in a new lineage. Jaguar’s launch announcement and its Type 00 design page make clear that the concept’s details are design intent, not a production-equipment list.
The design details Jaguar highlighted
- A long bonnet, sweeping roofline and fastback profile give the concept an unusually stretched silhouette.
- Jaguar describes flush surfaces, a panoramic glazed roof, a glassless tailgate and horizontal rear-light graphics.
- The concept has 23-inch wheels. Jaguar’s US design page also highlights butterfly-opening doors, a pantograph rear hatch, wheels milled from a single aluminum billet, brass Leaper markers and full-width rear light elements.
These are characteristics of the concept; they do not establish that a future production Jaguar will use the same features.
Why does Jaguar Type 00 look like a Cybertruck?
The comparison is about visual impact, not a documented connection. Type 00’s scale, sharply legible geometry and departure from familiar Jaguar proportions make it conspicuous; those qualities help explain why the headline invokes another polarizing, instantly recognizable vehicle. But the reviewed sources do not say Jaguar copied the Cybertruck, competed with it directly or shared engineering with Tesla. Treat the comparison as a provocative analogy rather than a claim about design lineage.

How the concept relates to Jaguar’s production plans
Type 00 is a design vision; Jaguar’s announced production direction is a separate electric four-door GT. The company’s projections and engineering statements have changed over time, so their dates matter.
What Jaguar projected in December 2024
In its 2 December 2024 announcement, Jaguar said the first car in its reimagined production range would be a UK-built electric four-door GT. The company projected up to 430 miles (692 km) of EPA range and said rapid charging could add up to 200 miles (321 km) in as little as 15 minutes. Both figures were explicitly subject to final testing: they are 2024 manufacturer projections, not confirmed production results.

What Jaguar said in March 2026
In a 31 March 2026 engineering update, Jaguar described a developing tri-motor system producing more than 1,000 PS (986 hp) and over 1,300 Nm (959 lb-ft) of torque. The same release cited intelligent torque vectoring, dynamic air suspension and twin-valve active dampers, and said the four-door GT would be revealed in September 2026. These are manufacturer statements about the developing GT, not independently verified final specifications. Jaguar’s engineering announcement also quotes Vehicle Engineering Director Matt Becker describing the aim as balancing performance and comfort.
What was reported ahead of the expected reveal
Wallpaper* reported on 12 August 2026 that interior imagery for the production-oriented Type 01 had appeared ahead of an expected early-October New York reveal. That report predates 4 October 2026, so it does not establish whether the reveal took place. Wallpaper*’s preview is not confirmation of final price, specifications or market availability.
Can you buy the Jaguar Type 00?
No. Jaguar explicitly identifies Type 00 as a non-production vehicle, so there are no purchasable Type 00 variants. The concept should not be confused with the planned four-door GT: the available dated statements describe Jaguar’s plans and projections, but do not establish a final price, order availability, confirmed production specifications or market-specific delivery timing as of 4 October 2026.

The concept arrived amid debate over Jaguar’s November 2024 rebrand campaign. The Associated Press reported criticism of campaign imagery that featured models without a car and quoted Villanova marketing professor Charles Taylor, who argued that the approach risked failing to build on Jaguar’s heritage. That is one expert’s assessment reported at launch, not a measured account of public opinion or evidence of the concept’s future commercial success. The Associated Press report documents the reaction and its context.
