What is the Dubai Loop deal?
The Boring Company says it signed a definitive partnership agreement with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit 2026. The first phase is a 4-mile (6.4-kilometer) pilot with four stations connecting the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Dubai Mall. The company describes a possible broader alignment of up to 14 miles (22.5 kilometers) and 19 stations, linking Dubai World Trade Centre and the financial district with Business Bay.

The Boring Company’s 2026 project page estimates the pilot would cost approximately USD 154 million and take around one year to deliver after design and preparations are complete. For the full route, it estimates approximately USD 545 million and around three years to implement. These are company estimates, not final audited costs or confirmed completion dates.

The company says the tunnels will be 12 feet (3.6 meters) in diameter. It has set a target to begin tunneling in the second half of 2026, but that target does not mean excavation has begun. The company says it and the RTA still plan to finalize design and mobilization, and that approximately 48 permits and no-objection certificates must be sought from around 10 entities.

RTA Director General and Board Chairman Mattar Al Tayer described the project as supporting integration between transport modes and first- and last-mile travel. The Boring Company President Steve Davis said the partnership would support Dubai’s plans for future mobility. Both statements appear on the company’s Dubai Loop project page; they describe the partners’ aims, not demonstrated operating results.
Is The Boring Company tunneling in Nashville yet?
Yes. In an October 1, 2026 update, The Boring Company said Prufrock-MB1 and Prufrock-MB2 were actively tunneling for Music City Loop. It said MB3 was planned to launch in late October and MB4 was being built, with a goal of having four machines underground before the end of 2026. The latter two are plans and a target, not a report that those machines are already tunneling.

The company also said it had made more than 300 upgrades to MB1, with those upgrades incorporated into later machines — The Boring Company, 2026. Its project portfolio lists Music City Loop as under construction.
What has been approved, and what remains in progress?
The October update is the developer’s account of the project’s approvals and agreements. The Boring Company said all permits and approvals required before tunneling had been obtained. It reported a fully executed Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) tunnel permit and lease agreement, following more than seven months of technical review, authorizing 25 miles of tunnel in TDOT’s right-of-way.

The same update said the Nashville International Airport Authority unanimously approved a Loop connection and station, but station design and permitting were still underway. The company also reported approval of a downtown convention center tunnel easement, residential station agreements for the Prime, Alcove and Paramount towers, and an agreement in principle with JW Marriott for a station. Those arrangements do not mean the corresponding stations are built or open.
As of the October update, more than 40 stations were in various stages of planning and design, according to the company. That figure is a planning count, not the number of operational stations.

How long will the Nashville airport tunnel take?
The Boring Company’s Music City Loop FAQ, last updated August 14, 2026, describes an approximately 25-mile system linking downtown Nashville, Music City Center and Lower Broadway to West End Avenue and Nashville International Airport (BNA). It projects an approximately 10-minute trip from BNA to Lower Broadway. That is a company estimate for the planned system, not a measured journey or a trip passengers can currently take.

The company says dedicated Model Y and Model X vehicles will initially carry passengers, driven by trained Loop drivers. The project’s October update described more than 40 stations at planning and design stages, while airport station design and permitting remained underway.

How do the Dubai and Nashville projects differ?
Dubai Loop is a contracted pilot with a defined initial route and station count; Music City Loop is a larger Nashville network under construction, with tunneling reported and many stations still in planning or design. Their published figures describe different things and should not be treated as like-for-like performance or cost comparisons.

What Nashville’s airport agreement figures mean
In a February 18, 2026 release, the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority said it had signed a letter of intent with The Boring Company to facilitate development of Music City Loop. The authority described a recommended 50-year agreement projected to generate approximately USD 34 million in license-fee revenue and conservatively estimated USD 309 million in pickup and drop-off fees. These are authority-published projections associated with the proposed agreement, not funds already collected.
The company’s July 2025 announcement described an initial 10-mile phase, an approximately eight-minute airport-to-downtown trip, and an expected first operational segment in spring 2026. Those were earlier projections. The later company project page describes an approximately 25-mile system and an approximately 10-minute projected journey from BNA to Lower Broadway; neither is a measured operating result.
