BMW’s 2026 electric-vehicle story has two layers. The iX3 SUV is the first production model in BMW’s Neue Klasse generation, and the all-electric i3 sedan is the second. BMW’s existing electric portfolio— including the i4, i5, i7 and iX—continues alongside them. Which cars you can actually order, what BMW calls them, and the range figures you see depend on your country.
The two new BMW EVs in the 2026 Neue Klasse rollout
BMW iX3 50 xDrive: the first Neue Klasse model
The iX3 is a midsize electric SUV with two motors and all-wheel drive. BMW Germany’s current technical specifications for the iX3 50 xDrive list 345 kW (469 PS), 645 Nm, a 108.7-kWh battery and a maximum 805-km WLTP range. DC charging is specified at up to 400 kW. The standard AC charger is 11 kW, with 22 kW available as an option.

BMW’s German-market page lists the iX3 50 xDrive from €70,900 including 19% VAT, excluding delivery costs. It describes the vehicle as available to order, with retail availability in selected markets from March 2026. That timing and price apply to Germany’s market configuration, not automatically to every country.
BMW i3: the second Neue Klasse model
The new i3 is a fully electric sedan rather than an SUV. BMW says production at its Munich plant is scheduled to begin in August 2026, with deliveries starting in autumn 2026. The company announced a range of up to 900 km in the WLTP cycle and charging of up to 400 kW.
The 900-km figure is a provisional manufacturer target from BMW’s March 19, 2026 announcement. BMW had not published binding final WLTP values at that point, so it should not be treated as a certified production-car rating.
Is the 2026 iX3 the same as the US 2027 iX3?
They refer to the same Neue Klasse iX3 family, but the model-year label and launch details differ by market. BMW plans to deliver the US version, designated the 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive, in fall 2026. Germany and other markets can use a 2026 availability label even though the vehicle reaches American customers as a 2027 model.

BMW’s US announcement gives the 2027 iX3 a base MSRP of $61,500 plus $1,350 destination and handling. BMW quotes an EPA-estimated range of up to 434 miles; its US model page also shows a preliminary estimate of 383–434 miles and says the range may not yet be fully EPA certified. Those EPA figures should not be combined with the German car’s 805-km WLTP number: WLTP and EPA are different test procedures, and equipment can vary by market.

Range and charging: how to read BMW’s numbers
WLTP versus EPA
The German iX3’s 805-km maximum is a WLTP result, while the US iX3’s 434-mile figure is an EPA estimate. Neither number guarantees the distance a particular driver will achieve. Wheel choice, options, speed, temperature, terrain, traffic and climate-control use all affect real-world range.

Charging capability
BMW specifies up to 400 kW DC charging for the iX3 and gives the same maximum charging figure in its provisional i3 announcement. The iX3’s AC capability is 11 kW as standard or 22 kW with the optional system. Actual charging speed also depends on the station, battery temperature, state of charge, electrical supply and the vehicle’s charging curve.

Which 2026 BMW EV makes sense?
Choose the iX3 if you want an electric SUV
The iX3 is the relevant Neue Klasse choice for buyers who need SUV seating height and cargo flexibility. Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout and large battery target long-distance use, while local availability and final equipment determine the version you can order.
Best Value
- Genuine BMW Product
- Maximum charging convenience
- Plug & Play - charging begins automatically when connected with the car
- Weather resistant with indoor/outdoor mounting
- All components certified to international standards and have been tested by the BMW Group
Wait for the i3 if you want a sedan
The i3 is the Neue Klasse sedan and is scheduled for autumn 2026 deliveries. Its headline 900-km WLTP range remains provisional until BMW publishes final certification and market specifications.
Consider the existing i4, i5, i7 or iX for an available alternative
Those models broaden BMW’s electric choices before the Neue Klasse rollout reaches more vehicles. They are not the two new 2026 Neue Klasse launches, and their prices, equipment and availability must be checked in the local BMW catalogue.
What to verify before ordering
- Use your country’s BMW configurator for the current model-year designation, price, taxes, delivery charges and inventory.
- Check whether a quoted range is WLTP, EPA-estimated or another local test result, and whether BMW calls it provisional or certified.
- Confirm battery, wheel, drivetrain and charging options because they can change the published range and price.
- For home charging, verify the vehicle connector, charger output, property wiring, electrical capacity and local installation requirements before buying equipment.
The Bottom Line
For 2026, BMW’s headline electric launches are the iX3 SUV and i3 sedan, both part of Neue Klasse. The iX3 is already entering selected markets and reaches the US as a 2027 model in fall 2026; the i3 follows in autumn 2026 with a range figure that remains provisional. BMW’s i4, i5, i7 and iX remain part of the wider US EV lineup.
