Oscar Piastri’s “battle for the wrist” was a playful watch-brand angle on the uncertainty around his Formula 1 team seat in 2022—not evidence that watchmakers were competing in confirmed endorsement deals. Later watch-industry reporting identified him wearing a Richard Mille RM 67-02 McLaren edition at the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix.
What the “battle for Oscar Piastri’s wrist” meant
The phrase came from Time+Tide’s 4 August 2022 article, written during the dispute over which team Piastri would drive for in 2023. Its author paired possible team destinations with their associated watch brands, then framed the possibilities as a contest for Piastri’s wrist. That was contemporary speculation and wordplay, not confirmation of a sponsorship or personal watch deal.
| 2022 scenario | Watch-brand pairing | What was established |
|---|---|---|
| Alpine | Bell & Ross | Part of Time+Tide’s speculative framing; not proof of a signed Piastri watch agreement. |
| Williams | Bremont | A possible destination discussed at the time, not a confirmed offer or final outcome. |
| McLaren | Richard Mille | Another speculative team-and-brand pairing in the article, not evidence of a confirmed deal. |
Time+Tide’s 2022 article described Alpine announcing Piastri as its 2023 driver in place of Fernando Alonso, followed hours later by Piastri publicly rejecting the announcement. The Williams and McLaren possibilities belonged to that unsettled moment; they should not be read as confirmed offers or as a record of the eventual outcome.
What watch has Piastri been reported wearing?
In a report about the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, watch marketplace Wristcheck identified Piastri wearing a Richard Mille RM 67-02 “McLaren” Automatic Winding Extra Flat Carbon TPT. This is a later reported sighting, separate from the 2022 article’s guesses about his next team.

Wristcheck’s 29 May 2025 report says the McLaren edition was made specifically for McLaren and is unavailable to the general public. The available reporting therefore supports identifying the watch seen at that event, but not treating it as an ordinary retail model with a verified public listing.
What later reporting says about the Richard Mille connection
Oracle Time’s 2026 driver-watch roundup describes Richard Mille as McLaren’s longstanding wristwatch partner and says Piastri wears the RM 67-02 Automatic Extra Flat on special podium occasions. That is secondary reporting about the team-brand relationship and Piastri’s watch appearances. It does not establish current contract terms, exclusivity, duration, compensation, or a personal endorsement agreement.

The model name in Oracle Time’s roundup is less specific than Wristcheck’s identification of the McLaren edition at Monaco. The reports support a watch identification and a broader McLaren-Richard Mille association; they do not resolve the terms of any arrangement involving Piastri personally.
