The redesigned 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan starts at a launch MSRP of $30,920 including destination and tops out at $41,180. Its case for “budget luxury” rests on standard driver-assistance features and heated front seats across the U.S. lineup, plus larger screens and added comfort equipment on higher trims—not on being a luxury-class vehicle. Those are launch prices, not current dealer quotes.
What does the 2025 Tiguan add for the money?
The 2025 model is the redesigned third-generation Tiguan. In the U.S. lineup, the value proposition is a combination of a turbocharged engine, standard IQ.DRIVE driver assistance, heated front seats, and a choice of four trims. Equipment changes as the price rises, so the phrase “budget luxury” is best understood as a value judgment about features and price—not a formal vehicle class or proof of superiority over premium competitors.
Volkswagen’s global launch announcement describes the new generation as a major redesign, including revised aerodynamics, a new cockpit, and a vehicle-dynamics manager. The global release also reports 37 liters more cargo capacity, for 652 liters loaded to the rear seatbacks; that is a global-market figure and should not be directly equated with U.S. cargo-volume measurements. Features discussed in that global announcement—including eHybrid, DCC Pro, ergoActive seats, and IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights—are not established here as equipment on the U.S. 2025 lineup. Volkswagen’s global Tiguan launch announcement quotes Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Technical Development Kai Grünitz: “The latest evolutionary stage of the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB evo) forms the highly innovative technical basis of the third generation of the Tiguan.” The quote describes the global generation.
How much did the U.S. 2025 Tiguan cost at launch?
Cars.com reported the following U.S. launch MSRPs on March 19, 2025, including the $1,425 destination fee. They are not current transaction prices, dealer offers, or an indication of present inventory.

Volkswagen of America’s March 19, 2025 retail order guide lists base prices before destination of $29,495 for S FWD, $32,295 for SE FWD, $35,455 for SE R-Line Black FWD, and $39,755 for SEL R-Line 4MOTION; it lists destination separately at $1,425. Which trim makes sense?
The basic progression is from entry-level S to a comfort-and-equipment step-up in SE, an appearance-focused SE R-Line Black, and the top SEL R-Line. Compare the equipment and drivetrain you actually want; the trim name alone does not tell the full story.

What powertrain and practical capabilities does it have?
U.S.-market 2025 Tiguans use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 201 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Volkswagen of America’s order guide lists torque at 207 lb-ft for FWD versions and 221 lb-ft for 4MOTION versions. The S, SE, and SE R-Line Black are FWD by default, with 4MOTION available at the launch premiums shown above; the SEL R-Line includes 4MOTION.

The order guide lists towing preparation for up to 1,500 pounds with FWD and 1,800 pounds with 4MOTION. Treat these as the source’s stated preparation/rating figures, not a blanket recommendation to tow: confirm the vehicle’s equipment and consult its owner documentation before towing. Cars.com reported on March 19, 2025, that official EPA fuel-economy ratings had not yet been released. No verified EPA MPG figure is established by the cited material, so use current EPA or Volkswagen specifications when fuel economy is a deciding factor. - Current price: The figures above are 2025 launch MSRPs. Ask a dealer for the current sticker, fees, incentives, and out-the-door price.
- Drivetrain and equipment: Confirm the specific vehicle’s FWD or 4MOTION configuration and its trim-level features against its window sticker or current official specifications.
- Fuel economy: Check EPA ratings for the exact model year and drivetrain rather than relying on a figure not established by the cited launch material.
- Global-versus-U.S. claims: Do not assume that a feature described in Volkswagen’s global-generation announcement is offered on the U.S. 2025 model.
- Accessories: Volkswagen’s U.S. order guide lists roof-rack base carrier bars in the Tiguan Adventure Package, alongside wheel splash guards, a rear-bumper protection plate, and a cargo-area luggage net.
