The 2025 Ford Bronco’s manual is a Getrag MT88c “6+1 crawler”: six forward gears for ordinary driving, plus an exceptionally low first gear for controlled, slow-speed travel. Ford lists first at 6.56:1 and seventh at 0.65:1. The crawler gear is first—not seventh—and the Bronco’s overall crawl ratio depends on its transfer case and axle gearing as well as the transmission.
What does “6+1 crawler” mean?
Ford calls the 2025 Bronco’s gearbox a “7-Speed Manual (6+1 crawler) Getrag (MT88c).” The “6+1” describes six conventional forward ratios plus a separate, very-low first gear intended for low-speed control. In practice, the gearbox has seven forward gears in total; the label distinguishes the crawler gear from the six ratios used for regular driving.
Ford specifies the manual for the 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 in its 2025 Bronco technical specifications. The 2025 order guide also lists Granny Gear, Crank in Gear function, and Hill Descent Control as included with the manual. Those details are specific to the 2025 model-year U.S. documentation.
2025 Bronco manual gear ratios
A gear ratio describes how many times the input shaft turns for one output-shaft turn. A higher numerical ratio provides more reduction: at a given engine speed, the transmission output turns more slowly and delivers more torque multiplication before losses.

These are the transmission’s individual ratios, as listed by Ford for the 2025 model year. Seventh gear’s 0.65:1 ratio is an overdrive; it is not the crawl gear. The 6.56:1 first gear is the unusually low ratio that gives the manual its crawler designation.
Bronco crawl gear versus overall crawl ratio
“Crawl gear” and “crawl ratio” are related but not interchangeable. Crawl gear usually means the transmission’s very-low first gear. Overall crawl ratio combines the transmission’s first-gear reduction with the transfer case’s low-range reduction and the axle ratio. It describes the total gearing from engine to wheels in the specified drivetrain configuration.

Ford’s 2025 specifications list two manual-transmission crawl-ratio configurations:

A numerically higher overall crawl ratio means greater total gear reduction and lower wheel speed for a given engine speed, all else equal. Ford’s 94.75:1 figure is therefore the greater reduction of these two listed configurations. A ratio by itself does not establish overall trail capability: terrain, tires, traction, vehicle setup, and driver control also matter. The figures are manufacturer specifications for the named configurations, not one universal crawl ratio for every Bronco.

Which 2025 Bronco trims have the manual?
Manual availability varies by trim. Ford’s 2025 U.S. product information identifies some trims as automatic-only, so a manual transmission should not be assumed across the Bronco lineup. Check the specific model-year trim and vehicle configuration before buying; availability can change by year. What to remember when comparing specifications
- Use the 6.56:1 figure when discussing the manual’s first-gear crawler ratio.
- Use the 79.92:1 or 94.75:1 figure only with its matching transfer-case configuration when discussing overall crawl ratio.
- Do not treat the 0.65:1 seventh gear as the crawler gear; it is the highest listed overdrive ratio.
