There is no definitive ranking of the most memorable Mopar cars. This list weighs recognizable design, performance identity, a model’s place in the Dodge and Plymouth lineups, and its lasting presence in car culture. It focuses on passenger cars, especially the classic muscle-car period commonly dated to roughly 1964–1972, while treating each model year and trim as its own thing. Here, “Mopar” means the Chrysler-associated Dodge and Plymouth cars enthusiasts often group together; Mopar is also Chrysler’s parts and performance identity.
Ten Mopar cars that left a mark
The order is editorial, not an objective scorecard. The classic-era selections reflect the breadth of Dodge and Plymouth performance cars; the descriptions avoid treating a model name as a guarantee of identical engines or equipment across years and trims. The approximate muscle-car-era framing comes from MotorTrend’s overview of Mopar.
-
1969 Dodge Charger
The Charger earns its place through a combination of recognizable shape and broad performance identity. Mopar highlights the 1969 model’s coke-bottle styling and hidden headlights, features that helped make the car a familiar image of the muscle-car era. The Charger was offered with a range of engines, so it is more accurate to discuss the year and configuration than to assume every 1969 Charger was alike. Mopar’s feature on five enduring muscle cars covers its styling and engine options.
-
1970 Dodge Challenger
The Challenger brought Dodge’s performance identity to a distinct two-door model line, with a range of engine options that varied by configuration. Its name remains strongly associated with the period, but “Challenger” alone does not specify an engine or equipment level. Mopar’s overview discusses the 1970 car and its performance options.

Plymouth Barracuda and ’Cuda
The Barracuda name covers a model line, while ’Cuda identifies a performance-oriented version; the names should not be used as if they always describe the same trim or specification. Mopar’s account of the 1970 ’Cuda points to its styling and performance options, while MotorTrend places the Barracuda in Plymouth’s wider muscle-car lineup. That distinction matters when describing an individual car: attach engine and equipment claims to its year and version, not simply to “Barracuda.” Mopar’s feature and MotorTrend’s overview provide the model context.
-
Plymouth Road Runner
The Road Runner stands out as a Plymouth performance car with a clear youth-market identity. It was one of the recognizable names in Plymouth’s muscle-car roster, alongside models such as the Barracuda and GTX. Its significance is not that every Road Runner shared one specification, but that the name gave Plymouth a distinct place in the era’s performance conversation. MotorTrend’s overview lists the model, and Hagerty’s World of Mopar feature discusses Mopar’s youth-market cars.
-
1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee
The Super Bee gave the Coronet line an especially assertive performance identity. Mopar singles out the 1970 model’s aggressive design and available performance engines, but those options do not mean every Super Bee left the factory with the same powertrain. It is a memorable example of how a model name and trim could signal a performance role without defining every car’s exact equipment. Mopar’s feature describes the 1970 Super Bee and its options.

Plymouth GTX
The GTX deserves recognition as its own Plymouth performance model, rather than as another name for the Road Runner. Both appear in accounts of Plymouth’s muscle-car lineup, but they represent separate entries in that family. Including the GTX makes the list more representative of Plymouth’s range than a list built around a single famous name. MotorTrend’s overview lists the GTX and Road Runner separately.

Dodge Daytona
The Daytona is part of the Dodge muscle-car story, but the available model overview does not establish enough detail to make precise claims here about its aerodynamic design, production, or racing record. Its inclusion recognizes the model’s place in the broader lineup without turning unsupported specifics into facts. MotorTrend’s overview includes the Daytona among Dodge’s muscle-car names.
-
Plymouth Superbird
The Superbird is another memorable name in the Mopar model roster. The sources available here establish its inclusion in that broader history and in Mopar parts-catalog material, but do not substantiate detailed claims about its competition record or model-year specifications. It belongs on a broad list of Mopar icons, with those specifics left to dedicated model histories. MotorTrend’s overview and the Mopar Performance Parts Catalog support its place in the Mopar context.

-
1971 Dodge Dart Demon
The Demon shows how Mopar performance identity extended to a compact car. Mopar identifies the 1971 model as a compact performance offering with a 340-cubic-inch V8 option. That engine detail belongs specifically to the documented 1971 option, not to every Demon or Dart. Its place here reflects the variety of sizes and roles within the Dodge lineup. Mopar’s feature describes the 1971 Demon.
-
Plymouth Duster
The Duster is a useful alternative to stretching this list beyond the classic-era evidence. As a Plymouth compact, it adds another body style and model-line role to a slate otherwise weighted toward larger performance names. Its inclusion broadens the picture of Mopar’s classic passenger-car range rather than claiming a particular engine, rarity, or record.

What makes a Mopar memorable?
Memorability is a mix of design, performance, and cultural recognition—not a single specification. Mopar’s own feature makes the Charger’s hidden headlights and coke-bottle profile central to its appeal, while its discussion of the Challenger, ’Cuda, Super Bee, and Demon shows how engine options and model roles contributed to their identities. The larger Dodge and Plymouth roster also matters: these cars were not one model line, but a group of different approaches to performance and style.

That variety is why year and trim matter. A familiar badge does not establish what engine a particular car had, and “Barracuda” is not interchangeable with every use of “’Cuda.” The useful way to talk about a classic Mopar is to identify the model year and version before making claims about its equipment.
Where the classic muscle-car era fits
MotorTrend frames the muscle-car era as roughly 1964 to 1972. Those dates are a useful historical guide, not hard boundaries for every car or every definition of “muscle car.” The list is centered on that period because the consulted histories most strongly support Dodge and Plymouth performance models from those years; it does not imply that Chrysler-associated cars outside the period cannot be memorable.
How to use this list
Use it as a starting point for comparing model identities, not as a definitive ranking or a guide to rarity and value. The roster emphasizes cars whose styling, performance role, or place in the Dodge and Plymouth lineup is represented in the cited histories. It does not assign production totals, collector prices, or racing records, and those claims should be checked against dedicated sources for the exact car and year.
