Textron Off Road introduced the Prowler EV and Prowler EV iS as 2018 models in October 2017. They were electric utility side-by-sides built for quiet off-road recreation, hunting and hauling. The 2020 EV iS owner’s manual lists a 72-volt AC drivetrain, 38 hp, a top speed of 24.5 mph and an approximate 8–12-hour charge time. Those are historical model specifications—not proof of current availability or a manufacturer-rated driving range.
What was the Textron Prowler EV?
The Prowler EV was an electric utility side-by-side from Textron Off Road, introduced for the 2018 model year. Contemporary coverage connected it to the Bad Boy Buggies Recoil EV lineage. Its 72-volt AC drivetrain used two motors—one at the front and one at the rear—for full-time four-wheel drive. The 2020 Prowler EV iS owner’s manual describes a battery system made up of six 12-volt heavy-duty deep-cycle batteries and lists 38 hp. Powersports Business reported the launch details in October 2017; the 2020 EV iS manual is the reference for that model’s specifications.
What is the difference between the Prowler EV and EV iS?
The clearest distinction at launch was the rear suspension. Both versions had independent front suspension, but the standard EV used a rear leaf spring and the EV iS used independent rear suspension. The 2020 EV iS manual specifies independent MacPherson struts at both ends. That makes the iS the version to look at if independent rear suspension is a priority; it does not, by itself, establish how either version performs on a particular trail.

The prices above are historical launch figures, not current used-market values. The launch coverage also described a two-person front bench and a convertible rear-facing bench, for seating of up to four, along with a fold-down cargo deck, glove box, hydraulic disc brakes, regenerative braking and an automatic Intellibrake electric parking brake.

How fast was it, and how much could it tow?
For the 2020 Prowler EV iS, the manual lists a maximum speed of 24.5 mph and a 16 mph maximum in range mode. It lists 1,000 lb towing capacity and 940 lb total capacity. Contemporary launch coverage separately says the fold-down cargo deck could carry 400 lb and that a hitch enabling 1,000 lb towing was optional. These figures refer to different stated capacities and equipment; check the manual and equipment for the exact vehicle before relying on a rating.
The same manual gives 16 inches of frame-center ground clearance and 9.5 inches of axle clearance. Those measurements describe different points on the vehicle and should not be treated as interchangeable.

What is the Prowler EV’s range?
A manufacturer-rated range is not established in the available launch coverage or 2020 EV iS manual. New Atlas reported that Textron had not provided a range figure and that actual range would depend on operating conditions and load. A third-party vehicle database lists 40 miles for the iS, but that number conflicts with the contemporaneous report that no range figure was supplied. It is therefore not sound to present 40 miles as a confirmed Textron rating.
For a used electric UTV, range is especially important to verify on the specific vehicle: battery condition, load and terrain affect practical use, and the cited materials do not provide a tested range under defined conditions.

How long did charging take?
The 2020 EV iS manual specifies an off-board 72-volt charger and an approximate charge time of 8–12 hours. This is the manual’s estimate, not a charge-time test. Confirm that a charger matches the exact vehicle before using or buying one; the battery voltage and count alone do not establish connector or charger compatibility.
What did Textron claim about efficiency and hunting?
Powersports Business repeated Textron’s promotional claims that the electric model was 25% more efficient than DC-powered vehicles and could get 85% closer to hunting game. The source does not provide methodology or test conditions for either figure, so they should be read as company claims rather than independently verified comparisons.

The cited materials do not establish current new or used inventory, current market prices or ongoing parts support for the legacy electric models. In an August 2026 announcement of its 2027 ATV and side-by-side lineup, Arctic Cat described gasoline-powered Prowler 500 and 800 variants; that announcement does not confirm whether a used Prowler EV can still be found or whether its parts remain supported. If considering a used Prowler EV, verify the model year and trim, battery condition, charger operation, included hitch and accessories, and availability of model-specific service parts before agreeing on a price. The 2017 launch coverage mentioned accessories such as a hitch, windshield, cargo equipment and lighting, but current listings and fitment for those items are not established here.
