Tesla’s latest reported date for revealing the production version of its second-generation Roadster is October 15, 2026. That is a new target: CEO Elon Musk had previously said the car would be revealed on April 1, 2026, a date he joked gave him “some deniability” if it slipped.
When will Tesla reveal the new Roadster?
As of September 28, 2026, the latest reported schedule is October 15. Tesla had planned an outdoor event for October 1 in Waco, Texas, but postponed it because of forecast severe weather. The October 15 date is a reported plan, not a completed reveal or a guarantee that the event will happen then. TechCrunch reported the schedule change.
Tesla said the event could only be held outdoors and that, after tracking the forecast with local meteorologists, it decided to reschedule because of predicted severe conditions. The statement quoted by TechCrunch said: “We’ve been tracking the weather closely with local meteorologists, but given the severe conditions predicted & because this event can only be held outdoors, we’ve made the difficult decision to reschedule.”
Why was the Roadster reveal delayed from April Fools’ Day?
April 1, 2026 was an earlier target announced by Musk at Tesla’s November 2025 shareholder meeting. He recognized the date’s association with pranks, saying, “Like, I could say I was just kidding,” and referring to having “some deniability” if the date slipped. The April date has passed; Tesla’s later reported event schedule is in October. The Verge covered Musk’s April 1 announcement.

The October 2026 postponement had a different stated reason: the forecast and the event’s outdoor-only format. That explanation applies to the move from October 1 to October 15; it does not establish why earlier Roadster targets changed.
How long has the second-generation Roadster been waiting?
Tesla first showed the second-generation Roadster concept in 2017 alongside the Semi. The company then described the car as only a few years away. Musk’s April 1, 2026 reveal target came nearly nine years after that initial concept presentation. TechCrunch’s timeline traces the gap.

The schedule shifted again during 2026. In June, The Information reported, citing four people familiar with the program, that Tesla was pushing a planned demo to August or later. Tesla subsequently scheduled the October 1 event, then moved it to October 15 because of forecast weather. The Information reported the June timing change.
When could Roadster production begin?
There is no firm production or delivery date established in the latest reports. At the November 2025 meeting, Musk said production would follow 12 to 18 months after the planned April reveal. In a September 2026 report, he expected production to begin a year or more after the eventual reveal. These are his estimates, not a confirmed Tesla delivery commitment. TechCrunch reported Musk’s later expectation.
