Tesla introduced the lower-priced Model Y Standard in the United States in October 2025 with a starting price of $39,990. Tesla’s US configurator, checked October 8, 2026, lists the entry Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive at the same vehicle price, but its displayed estimate rises to $41,630 after destination and order fees—and excludes taxes and other applicable charges.
What Tesla launched in October 2025
Tesla’s Q3 2025 investor update called the new entry model the Model Y Standard and gave it a US starting price of $39,990. The update said the Standard Model Y offered over 300 miles of range. Tesla launched a Model 3 Standard at the same time, with a stated starting price of $36,990 and over 300 miles of range. Tesla framed the lower-priced models as a way to make its vehicles more accessible after the US EV tax credit expired; that was the company’s rationale, not an independent assessment. Reuters reported at launch that the Standard trims were lower-priced versions with fewer features than the Premium versions. Orders were then available immediately, with many locations showing estimated delivery from December 2025 to January 2026. Those were launch-period details, not current delivery estimates. What the Model Y costs now
As of October 8, 2026, Tesla’s US configurator displayed the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive at a vehicle price of $39,990. With the displayed $1,390 destination fee and $250 order fee, the configurator showed an estimated purchase price of $41,630 before taxes and any other applicable charges. Tesla’s live pricing and fees can change, and buyers need to enter a delivery ZIP code to see the choices and estimate for their location. This is not a universal out-the-door quote. To check a local estimate on Tesla’s site, enter a delivery ZIP where prompted by “Enter Delivery ZIP.” The configurator offers transaction choices labeled “Cash,” “Lease” and “Finance”; the displayed estimate should not be mistaken for the total cost under every payment method or for a final local transaction total.
Range and performance shown for the rear-wheel-drive model
The same configurator page listed 321 miles of EPA-estimated range, a 125 mph top speed and 0–60 mph acceleration in 6.8 seconds for the Rear-Wheel Drive configuration checked on October 8, 2026. Tesla says the range estimate uses the EPA standard, while actual range varies with factors including speed, weather and elevation. What Tesla said came standard at launch
For the Model Y Standard launch, Tesla listed active safety features, a 15.4-inch center touchscreen, heated first-row seats and a heated steering wheel as standard equipment. What the displayed vehicle price does not include
Tesla lists destination and order fees separately from the vehicle price, and taxes and other applicable charges can add to the total. The configurator also presents a Wall Connector, Mobile Connector and all-weather interior liners as options, not items included in the vehicle price. What to check before comparing Model Y versions
The figures above apply to the rear-wheel-drive configuration shown in Tesla’s US configurator on October 8, 2026. A meaningful comparison with another version should use the same delivery location and model year, and check:
- Vehicle price separately from destination and order fees, taxes and other applicable costs.
- Drivetrain, EPA-estimated range and selected wheels.
- Acceleration and other performance specifications.
- Included cabin and display equipment, using the current configuration rather than assuming launch details are unchanged.
- Whether charging equipment or accessories are included or selected separately.
- Delivery availability for the buyer’s ZIP code.
