Tesla’s $25,000 Model 2: What’s Confirmed—and What Isn’t

Tesla’s 2025 update described an unnamed affordable model—not a confirmed Model 2 crossover with a $25,000 price. Here’s what the company and reporting actually establish.

No confirmed Tesla announcement establishes a production crossover called Model 2 with a $25,000 retail price. Tesla has discussed a more affordable vehicle, but its official materials reviewed here do not identify it by name, confirm its body style, or give it a price. The latest specific production guidance cited below is from 2025, so it should not be mistaken for a current order or delivery date.

What Tesla has actually confirmed

In its Q2 2025 update, Tesla said: “We continue to expand our vehicle offering, including first builds of a more affordable model in June, with volume production planned for the second half of 2025.” The statement refers to an unnamed model. It does not call the vehicle Model 2, describe it as a crossover, or announce a retail price.

That language is company guidance, not independent confirmation that the planned production ramp was completed or that the vehicle became available to retail buyers. Tesla’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2025 says factories were preparing for new models later in 2025 and discusses uncertainty in ramping manufacturing operations.

Is Model 2 a real name, and is it a crossover?

“Model 2” is an informal name used in reporting and public discussion, not the name Tesla used in the official materials cited here. The Q2 update says only “a more affordable model.” Tesla’s production-status table in the June 2025 filing lists named vehicles, including Cybercab as under construction, but does not list Model 2.

Those documents also do not establish the vehicle’s body style. Calling it a crossover—or assigning it passenger space, cargo capacity, battery, range, or trim specifications—would go beyond what Tesla confirmed in these sources.

Is $25,000 a confirmed price?

No. The reviewed materials do not state a $25,000 sticker price for a Model 2—or even identify a Model 2 product to price. Price claims in earlier coverage refer to different, less specific claims:

Rank #2
  • In October 2024, the Associated Press reported Elon Musk describing an unidentified affordable vehicle as costing under $30,000 including government tax incentives. That was not a confirmed Model 2 MSRP; the incentive treatment also means the figure should not be read as a sticker price. Associated Press coverage
  • The same AP coverage associated a roughly $25,000 target with Cybercab, a separate two-seat robotaxi—not a consumer crossover.

Neither figure verifies a current price, regional price, incentive eligibility, or amount buyers could pay for a Model 2.

How the $25,000-car story changed

  • April 2024: Reuters reported that Tesla had retreated from plans for an all-new vehicle expected to cost $25,000. Tesla CEO Elon Musk publicly denied the report. This remains disputed reporting and a public denial, not a conclusively documented cancellation. Reuters, April 2024
  • October 2024: AP reported Tesla’s promise to accelerate more affordable vehicles, while noting that the models were not identified and their price remained unclear. The under-$30,000 incentive-inclusive description and separate Cybercab target belong to this reporting, not to an announced Model 2 price.
  • Q2 2025: Tesla reported first builds of an unnamed affordable model in June and planned volume production for the second half of that year. The update supplied no name, body style, or retail price.
  • June 30, 2025 filing: Tesla’s production table named vehicles but did not include Model 2. It described preparation for new models and noted uncertainty around manufacturing ramps.

Tesla’s investor-relations press index has surfaced 2026 company releases, but the reviewed page content did not include a Model 2-specific announcement or price. That observation is limited to the page content reviewed; it does not establish that no such announcement exists elsewhere. Tesla Investor Relations press index

Can you order one, and when might it arrive?

The sources cited here do not establish that a Model 2 is orderable, that an affordable model reached customers, or that Tesla met its second-half 2025 production plan. They provide no current order date, delivery window, or buyer-facing launch announcement. Tesla’s filing cautions that plans can be affected by the challenges of establishing and ramping manufacturing operations, new product and manufacturing technologies, supply constraints, labor availability, trade policy, and other external factors.

For a real purchase decision, look for a Tesla announcement that names the vehicle and specifies its market, price, configuration, and order availability. Until then, treat “Model 2,” “crossover,” “$25,000,” and any delivery timing as unconfirmed when attached to this purported product.
