Tesla filed recall 24V-935 on December 23, 2024, covering 696,281 potentially involved vehicles—not 696,281 confirmed defects or unrepaired cars. The campaign addresses a software issue that can make the tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS) malfunction warning disappear after the vehicle is turned off or goes to sleep. Check your full VIN and software version to determine your car’s status; the recall remedy is a no-cost over-the-air update.
What the Tesla TPMS recall covers
Tesla’s report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identifies 696,281 potentially involved vehicles. The campaign applies to certain model-year vehicles, so a model and year that fall within the ranges do not by themselves confirm that a particular car is included.

These are scope ranges from Tesla’s Part 573 report filed with NHTSA. Tesla says the affected VIN ranges are not sequential, so production dates are not a substitute for checking your VIN.
What the tire-pressure warning issue means
The recall is about the TPMS malfunction telltale—the warning that the monitoring system itself has a problem—not a reported widespread failure of physical tire-pressure sensors. On affected vehicles, after the car detects a TPMS malfunction, the warning may not remain displayed across drive cycles if the vehicle is turned off or asleep.

A warning that does not persist may not adequately alert a driver to potential under-inflation, increasing collision risk. The recall does not mean a tire necessarily loses pressure or that a collision occurred. Tesla’s report says routine compliance testing for non-U.S. markets identified the condition on November 6, 2024. Its investigation traced it to software release 2024.38.3, which could reset the telltale when the car turned on or woke from sleep.
How to check whether your Tesla is affected
- Find your 17-character VIN. Search it in Tesla’s recall lookup or NHTSA’s recall lookup.
- Check the software version. In the vehicle touchscreen, go to Controls > Software. Tesla also says the version appears at the bottom of the vehicle home screen in the Tesla app.
- Follow the campaign-specific result. Tesla’s TPMS recall page lists corrected releases and current owner guidance. If your version differs from the listed releases, or the lookup is unclear, use Tesla’s current instructions rather than inferring eligibility from model year.
- Check again if needed. NHTSA says VIN results show unrepaired recalls, but newly announced campaigns may not immediately include every affected VIN; records are updated as VINs are identified.
A VIN lookup is more useful for an individual car than a general model-year search. NHTSA’s year/make/model search provides general recall information, while a VIN search can show whether a specific vehicle has an unrepaired recall recorded. Neither a static model-year range nor this historical campaign report can establish a vehicle’s current open or completed status.

What fixes the recall—and whether you need an appointment
Tesla’s remedy is a no-cost over-the-air software update, not replacement of a tire sensor. Tesla says rollout began on or shortly after November 12, 2024, and that production vehicles received the remedy beginning November 15, 2024. Its campaign page lists versions 2024.38.7, 2024.38.10 and 2024.40, as well as later compliant releases, with exceptions for 2024.44 and 2024.44.1. Because Tesla’s campaign guidance can change, check the current recall page if your car shows another version.
Tesla says owners whose vehicles have a listed remedy release or later compliant software do not need a service appointment. If the update will not download or install and the issue persists, Tesla directs owners to its software-update help or to schedule service. Tesla says recall service is free for vehicles included in a recall, regardless of vehicle age or mileage.

What Tesla reported about the recall
Tesla made its recall determination on December 10, 2024, after investigating the software behavior. As of December 13, 2024, it reported 76 warranty claims and one field report, and said it was not aware of related collisions, injuries or fatalities. Those figures describe Tesla’s report at that time; they are not a current incident tally.
A manual tire-pressure check can help you monitor inflation, but it does not correct the TPMS telltale, confirm recall completion or replace a VIN lookup. The recall remedy is the software update.
