Choose wheels for your exact model year, trim, market and configuration, then verify wheel diameter, width, offset, tire size, load and speed ratings, and whether the car uses different front and rear fitments. Tesla’s owner’s manual and the tire-information label on the vehicle are the controlling references—not diameter alone.
How to check which wheels fit your Tesla
- Identify the exact car. Record its model, model year, trim and market. Open the matching Tesla owner’s manual; specifications can vary between years and configurations.
- Check the vehicle’s tire-information label. Use it to confirm the tire size and recommended cold tire pressure for the tires fitted to that car. Tesla notes that pressure varies with the fitted tire. The label is particularly useful when the car has factory-original wheels or genuine Tesla replacements; Tesla’s older Model 3 manual says the vehicle label is the more accurate reference in those cases. Tesla Model 3 owner’s manual, 2017–2023
- Compare the complete fitment. Check wheel diameter, width and offset, then the tire size and required load and speed indices. Confirm whether the vehicle is staggered, meaning the front and rear wheels or tires differ.
- Confirm approval and configuration. Tesla instructs owners to use Tesla-approved wheels when installing or swapping wheels. Follow the exact manual for the vehicle’s approved setup and any required configuration changes.
A matching diameter does not establish compatibility. For example, the cited Model 3 and Model Y manuals both list an 18 × 8.5J wheel, but with different offsets: 38 mm for Model 3 and 35.5 mm for Model Y. Those specifications illustrate why one model’s fitment should not be assumed to fit another.
Factory wheel examples by Tesla model
The dimensions below are examples listed in the cited Tesla manuals, not universal fitment claims. Check the manual and label for the exact car before buying or installing wheels. The cited specifications may differ by model year, market and configuration.
Model 3
| Wheel setup in cited manual | Listed wheel dimensions | Listed tire size |
|---|---|---|
| 18-inch | 18 × 8.5J, 38 mm offset | 235/45R18 |
| 19-inch | 19 × 8.5J, 38 mm offset | 235/40R19 |
| 20-inch staggered | Front: 20 × 9.0J, 34 mm offset; rear: 20 × 10.0J, 45 mm offset | Front: 235/35R20; rear: 275/30R20 |
These are the options listed in the cited Model 3 manual. Tesla’s older Model 3 manual also documents 18-inch Aero, 19-inch Sport, 20-inch Sport and 20-inch Zero-G accessory examples; the exact dimensions and tire specifications depend on the documented setup. Model Y
| Wheel setup in cited manual | Listed wheel dimensions | Listed tire size |
|---|---|---|
| 18-inch | 18 × 8.5J, 35.5 mm offset | 255/45R18 |
| 19-inch | 19 × 9.5J, 45 mm offset | 255/45R19 |
| 20-inch | 20 × 9.5J, 45 mm offset | 255/40R20 |
| 21-inch Performance staggered | Front: 21 × 9.5J; rear: 21 × 10.5J | Configuration-specific; see the exact manual and vehicle label |
The cited Model Y manual also specifies minimum tire load and speed indices and notes configuration-specific six-seat exceptions. Confirm those details for the particular vehicle rather than relying on a general wheel-size list.
Model S
The cited Model S manual includes staggered examples: 19 × 9.5J front and 19 × 10.5J rear, as well as 20 × 10J front and 20 × 11J rear. Tire sizes vary by wheel and configuration. Treat these as examples for that manual and market, not specifications for every Model S.

Model X
The available Model X reference does not establish a verified wheel-dimension table. Do not infer Model X dimensions from Model S, Model Y or another Tesla. Consult the exact Model X owner’s manual and the vehicle’s tire-information label before selecting a replacement.
What to consider before changing wheel size
A different diameter is not automatically an upgrade or a compatible replacement. Evaluate the whole wheel-and-tire combination against the car’s specified fitment. The cited manuals do not establish universal effects on range, ride comfort or handling, so those outcomes should not be assumed from diameter alone.

Pressure, rotation and wheel installation
Set pressure from the vehicle label
Use the tire-information label on the exact vehicle for recommended cold pressure. Tesla says pressure varies by fitted tire, so do not substitute a pressure figure from a different model or configuration.
Rotate tires according to the manual
Tesla’s owner-manual maintenance guidance recommends tire rotation every 6,250 miles (10,000 km), or when the tread-depth difference is 2/32 inch (1.5 mm) or greater, whichever comes first. On staggered wheels with non-directional tires, Tesla says tires may be rotated side-to-side but not front-to-back when the front and rear sizes differ. Follow the instructions for the exact vehicle. Verify installation specifications before work
The cited Model Y manual lists 129 lb-ft (175 Nm) lug-nut torque and a 21 mm lug-nut socket size. These are Model Y-specific figures from that manual, not a universal Tesla specification. Check the exact vehicle manual for torque, lifting points and safe installation procedures; using the right socket does not make an otherwise unsafe lifting or installation method safe.
