On March 10, 2025, Tesla shares fell 15% to $222.15, and Elon Musk told Fox Business interviewer Larry Kudlow that he was running his businesses “with great difficulty.” The fall was a one-day move during a broader market selloff—not a current stock-price update. The headline’s “freaking out” phrasing is an editorial interpretation; the reported quote and share-price decline are the verifiable events.
What happened to Tesla stock on March 10, 2025?
Reuters reported that Tesla shares fell 15% to $222.15 on March 10, their lowest level since October at the time. The decline erased the late-2024 rally that had nearly doubled the stock after Donald Trump’s November 5 election. The Nasdaq also fell 4% that day amid investor fears that tariffs could contribute to a recession. These figures describe the March 10, 2025 session, not Tesla’s performance today. Reuters
What did Musk tell Larry Kudlow?
Reuters reported that Kudlow asked Musk, “I mean, how are you running your other businesses?” Musk replied, “With great difficulty,” with a sigh. The exchange was reported from their Fox Business interview on March 10, 2025. Reuters
Futurism’s March 11 follow-up described Musk as appearing close to tears. That is the outlet’s interpretation of his appearance, not proof that he was crying, having a breakdown, or experiencing a particular emotional state. The available reporting establishes his words and the market decline; it cannot establish what he privately felt. Futurism

Why did Tesla shares fall?
Reuters placed Tesla’s decline amid a broad Wall Street selloff and tariff-related recession fears. It also reported investor concern that Musk’s work for the federal government could distract him from Tesla. Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth, told Reuters: “The public eye seems to be coalescing around what he’s doing for the federal government. So if you’re a shareholder, you can’t help but wonder if that’s not detracting from what he should be doing for the publicly traded company that he’s running.” Reuters
Contemporaneous coverage also discussed weaker vehicle sales, competition from Chinese manufacturers and legacy automakers, and backlash to Musk’s political activity. Reuters said it was difficult to determine how much his political activity affected vehicle sales; the reporting does not establish one cause for the stock move. The market decline occurred in the context of several debated pressures, not a proven single explanation. Reuters Associated Press

There was evidence of a sharp regional sales decline, but it should not be confused with a global quarterly delivery total. The Associated Press, citing the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), reported that Tesla sales in Europe fell 49% in January and February 2025 compared with the same months in 2024. Across Europe, battery-electric car sales grew 28.4% over that period. Those figures are regional and cover two months. Associated Press

Tesla’s SEC-filed release reported 336,681 global vehicle deliveries in the first quarter of 2025. The company attributed several weeks of lost production to Model Y line changeovers across its four factories. Tesla also cautioned that deliveries and storage deployments are only two measures of financial performance and should not be relied on as an indicator of quarterly financial results.
