A Tesla Semi megacharging demonstration reportedly reached a peak of 1,206 kW—about 1.2 megawatts. Tesla Semi’s account described engineers “hitting 1.2MW on Semi Megacharger” in a post dated December 31, 2025. That is a striking peak-power figure, but it does not show how long the truck charged at that rate or how quickly a typical charging session would be completed.
What the Tesla Semi demonstrated
A report published by Indian Defence Review on January 2, 2026, says the demonstration reached 1,206 kW of peak charging power. Tesla Semi’s post uses the rounded figure of 1.2 MW. The event was a megawatt-charging demonstration—not a range record or evidence of fleet operating costs.
The Tesla Semi account’s post is brief: “Engineers hitting 1.2MW on Semi Megacharger.” The secondary report provides the more precise 1,206 kW figure. Neither figure, by itself, describes an entire charging session.

What the peak-power number does not tell us
Charging power can change during a session. A reported peak therefore cannot establish the average power or the time needed to add a given amount of energy. For this demonstration, the report says Tesla did not disclose the charging curve, session duration, or the truck’s state of charge.
Without those details, the 1,206 kW report does not establish a typical recharge time, how much of the battery was charged, or whether the truck sustained megawatt-level power beyond a brief peak. The cited material also does not provide independently published test conditions or a complete technical record for the session.

What this means for fleets
The demonstration is evidence of a reported high-power charging milestone. It is not, on its own, proof of how quickly a fleet can return a truck to service or what charging infrastructure will mean for operating economics. Those questions require session-level results and comparable operational data, including charging time over a stated battery-charge range, vehicle use, energy consumption, payload, uptime, and access to suitable chargers.
Tesla’s Semi page lists Long Range and Standard Range versions and offers a fleet inquiry route for operators seeking information about ordering one or more trucks. The page does not present a consumer checkout path. It does not provide the missing charge-curve or test-session details for this demonstration.
