The recall applies to vehicles built from November 13, 2023, through February 27, 2025—not every Cybertruck in every market. Owners should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) and arrange Tesla’s free replacement if it is affected.
What panel is involved, and what can happen?
The affected part is the stainless-steel panel in the cantrail assembly, an exterior trim strip. It is not a door or windshield panel. Tesla’s recall filing says the assembly’s stainless panel was joined to an electrocoated steel stamping with structural adhesive and attached to the vehicle with fasteners. The adhesive could become embrittled by environmental exposure, allowing the stainless panel to delaminate at the joint and separate from the Cybertruck.
If it separates while the vehicle is being driven, it could become a road hazard for motorists behind the truck and raise their risk of injury or collision, according to Tesla’s manufacturer-submitted report to NHTSA. Cabin noise or a visibly loose panel may indicate a problem.
Which Cybertrucks are included?
NHTSA’s recall report lists 46,096 potentially involved model-year 2024–2025 Cybertrucks built November 13, 2023, through February 27, 2025. The Associated Press described the campaign on March 20, 2025, as a recall of “virtually all Cybertrucks on the road,” a U.S.-context description at that time—not a claim that every Cybertruck ever built or sold worldwide is included.

Tesla estimated in its filing that 1% of the potentially involved vehicles had the defect. That estimate does not establish that a particular vehicle is safe, nor does it exempt vehicles in the recall population from the remedy. Model year and build dates alone cannot confirm an individual vehicle’s status; use the VIN lookup.
How to check your VIN and get the repair
- Find your 17-character VIN in your vehicle documents or on the vehicle.
- Enter it in Tesla’s recall lookup at Tesla’s Cybertruck Cantrail Replacement page, or search it through NHTSA’s recall lookup.
- If the lookup shows an open cantrail recall, follow Tesla’s instructions to schedule service. Tesla says it will contact affected owners to arrange service when parts are available in their region; confirm current availability and appointment details with Tesla.
Tesla’s published guidance says an affected Cybertruck may continue to be driven. If you see the panel coming loose or hear unusual cabin noise, contact Tesla for vehicle-specific advice rather than attempting a repair yourself.

What does the recall repair involve?
Tesla will replace the cantrail assembly at no charge. Its support page estimates the replacement will take about one hour, though owners should confirm the appointment and timing with Tesla. The remedy uses a different adhesive and adds a stud welded to the stainless panel, with a nut clamping the steel panel to the vehicle structure.
The recall report submitted March 18, 2025, said the condition had not yet been corrected in production at that time and that Tesla anticipated beginning a production remedy around March 21, 2025. Those are historical statements from the filing, not a current production-status update.

How this differs from the 2024 Cybertruck trim recall
This cantrail campaign is separate from NHTSA recall 24V-457, which concerned a sail applique on the exterior trunk-bed trim. That earlier issue involved an applique or adhesion that might not have been installed to specification. The two recalls concern different parts and should not be combined.
